Advisory Council

To further strengthen the Defence Now team we have developed the Defence Now Advisory Council, made up from high-level ex-military, defence and homeland security personnel; working to provide in-depth knowledge and expertise of the real needs of India’s Defence, Aerospace and Homeland Security sectors. The Advisory Council possesses a vast number of years of experience between them from the Indian Navy, Army, Air Force and Intelligence Services and will be the guiding force to deliver on Defence Now’s service offerings.
With the strategic knowledge and guidance of the Advisory Council, Defence Now is poised to set the standard for transparency, accuracy, credibility and timeliness in defence procurement.

Dr S D PRADHAN
Dr S D Pradhan is retired Chairman, Joint Intelligence Committee and former Dy National Security Advisor. He also served as Chairman of the Task Force on Intelligence Mechanism (2008-2010), which was constituted to review the functioning of the intelligence agencies. After his post graduation, he was selected as the Research Fellow in the Ministry of Defence to do Ph.D. on the military operations of the Indian Army in the East African Campaign (1914-1918).
He taught in the Departments of Defence Studies and History in the Punjabi University, Patiala. He was also the Visiting Professor at University of Illinois, US in the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament Studies. The Ministry of Defence had utilized his services for the preparation of official accounts of the 1971 War and the counter insurgency l operations in the North East.
He had served in the country’s external intelligence agency before joining the JIC.In the JIC/National Security Council Secretariat, he was closely involved with preparation of reports of the Kargil Review Committee and Group of Ministers on national security as also with the implementation of their recommendations. His publications include two books and several articles.
LT. GEN. (RETD) VIJAY KUMAR CHOPRA
PVSM, VSM
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lt. Gen. Chopra was commissioned in the army in 1965. A graduate of the Defence Service Staff College, Higher Defence Management and National Defence College, he held prestigious command and staff appointments including Director General Operational Logistics and Master General of Ordnance.
A keen Defence Analyst, he has written a number of defence related articles in leading Defence Magazines. He was a member of the Defence Expenditure Review Committee set up by the Defence Minister in 2009. He is presently a Defence Consultant.
AIR MARSHAL (RETD) GURNAM SINGH CHAUDHRY
PVSM, AVSM, VSM
An ex-NDA (National Defence Academy) officer commissioned as a fighter pilot. Air Marshal Chaudhry went on to become a fully Operational Air Defence and Strike pilot, an A Cat Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot. He commanded a Jaguar Squadron, was Chief Operations Officer at Pune and Commanded Air Base at Tezpur. An alumnus of DSSC and NDC, he has held a wide variety of staff and operational appointments such as Ops Staff at Western Air Command, Deputy/Joint Director Air Staff Requirement at Air HQ, Instructor at DSSC, founder member of IDS as PD Long Term Force Structure, ACAS (Inspection) and SASO South Western Air Command. He retired as AOC-in-C Training Command.
He has written articles and features for magazines like Force (India) and Air Buz by S P Publication. His area of expertise lies in Long Term & Futuristic Force Structuring.
LT. GEN. (RETD.) B.S. PAWAR
PVSM, AVSM
An Aluminus of Defence Services Staff College, College of Defence Management and National Defence College, the General Officer has served for 40 years plus in the Indian Army.
During his distinguished career, he has held important command and staff appointments. The officer has served for 17 years in aviation related assignments and has 4000 hours of flying experience to his credit. He is also a qualified flying instructor. During his tenure as Director General Army Aviation, he was responsible for making operational the first unit of Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) in the Indian Army. He was also instrumental in setting up the first Cheetah Simulator in the country. The officer was Commandant School of Artillery before retiring in September 2008. During this tenure, he supervised the trials of towed 155mm 52 calibre guns, though none met the GSQRs.
The general is presently a freelance writer for a number of Defence Journals (Indian Military Review, Indian Defence Review, India Strategic Force, Geopolitics, etc.), a participant and speaker in seminars on strategic and defence related issues, a Defence Consultant and the President of the Northern Chapter of the Rotary Wing Society of India (RWSI).
