India to Remain Favorite Aerospace, Defence Destination

India is poised to become a favorite destination for global aerospace and defence sector players with total offset opportunity for the commercial segment in the country set to cross $10 billion mark in 2013. With the government expected to raise the foreign investment limit from 26 percent to 49 percent in the defence sector in 2013, the country is likely to witness the next rush of investments, as per a recent study by Deloitte, a global consultancy firm. Maini Group To Unveil Expansion Plan At Aero India

The Maini Group, a key Indian defence company, has announced that it would be sharing details regarding its expansion plans at the Aero India 2013 to be held at Yelahanka air base in Bangalore from February 6 to 10. The group has acquired industrial land in preparation for its expansion of plant facilities and is concentrating on long-term aerospace and defence strategic plans spanning the next two decades. For this purpose, it is currently in talks with global and domestic aerospace leaders in order to explore the right opportunities, the company said here. Saab Going To AeroIndia with Large Product Portfolio

Swedish defence major Saab will participate in this year's AeroIndia at Yelahanka air base in Bangalore from February 6 to 10 with a large portfolio of products, apart from a 70-official strong global team being present on the show days at the venue. After having had a major presence in AeroIndia 2011, Saab will present a products covering the land, air, naval and civil security domains at AeroIndia 2013. Saab Chief Executive Officer Hakan Buskhe and the heads of Saab's Business Areas, Head of Market Area Lars Olof Lindrgen and Managing Director for India Niklas Nieminen would be present at the show his year, according to the company. Boeing Delivers First of 10 C-17s Meant For India

US aerospace major Boeing has delivered on scheduled the first of the 10 C-17 Globemaster III heavy airlifters for the Indian Air Force (IAF), the company has said. India's first C-17, delivered on January 22, will now enter a US Air Force flight test program at Edwards Air Force Base in Palmdale, California, it said. Boeing is on track to deliver four more C-17s to the IAF this year and five in 2014. "The C-17 met the stipulated airlift requirements of the Indian Air Force when it flew field evaluation trials in India during June 2010," said Air Commodore Sanjay Nimesh, Air Attache at the Embassy of India in the US. Aero India 2013 to Be a Low-Key Affair

Absence of foreign fighter aircraft and reduced number of participating companies are likely to make the ninth edition of the biennial Aero India show a low-key affair. Addressing a press conference on the Aero India show, Secretary (Defence Production) R K Mathur claimed the ninth edition of the show in Banglaore was expected to be "bigger and better" than the previous ones. However, ministry officials said the number of aircraft who have confirmed participation in the show is 52 this year so far while 63 aircraft had come in 2011. The number of companies who have booked space at the show is 607 while 675 took part in the last edition.
