India to Test Pinaka Rocket System

India will soon carry out a series of tests of its indigenous multi-barrel rocket system Pinaka's advanced, upgraded version. The tests are likely to be conducted off Chandipur test range on Odisha coast off the eastern seaboard. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) unit, Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), will provide logistics support to the Indian Army personnel, who will perform the user-trials that could take place by this weekend, according to sources. Navy Plans USD 8 Billion Chopper Tender

The Indian Navy is planning to issue a bid for procuring more than 120 multirole choppers which could be world's largest tender expected to be worth around USD eight billion. The navy had recently issued a global request for information in this regard and has plans of acquiring more than 120 Naval Multirole Helicopters (NMRH), navy sources said here. The navy had recently asked global helicopter vendors to provide details about their choppers in this category and is planning to issue a global request for proposal in this regard in near future, they said. India Inches Towards N-Triad Capability, Successfully Tests Missile

India got a step closer to having a nuclear weapon triad capability to fire missiles with nuclear warhead from under the sea with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completing the development trials of the K-15 missile. With the test, India became the 5th nation in the world after US, Russia, France and Chine with such a capability and is gearing up to induct the missile in its first indigenous nuclear-powered submarine, INS Arihant, which itself is readying to head for the sea trials later this year. Antony Visits Myanmar To Boost Defence Ties

India's Defence Minister A. K. Antony visited neighbouring Myanmar for two days this week when he met that country's President Thein Sein at capital Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, Antony conveyed the importance placed by India on enhancement of bilateral ties in all fields, including defence, with Myanmar, according to Indian defence officials. Antony noted that the recent exchanges of visits between both countries at political and other levels had imparted a new momentum to the bilateral relationship. BAE, Mahindra JV Under Joint Review

After three years of operations, Mahindra and Mahindra and its foreign partner BAE Systems have announced a review of their joint venture in India to see if it needs any change to address issues concerning an evolving market. "Since the establishment in 2009 of the Mahindra and Mahindra and BAE Systems Joint Venture, Defence Land Systems India (DLSI), both shareholders recognise that significant evolution has occurred in the Indian Land Systems market," their joint statement said. "Developments in both the industry environment and in customer procurement frameworks and acquisition strategies have led the shareholders to institute a strategic review of the business," they said.
