To enhance their military ties further, India and Singapore have agreed to hold regular Defence Minister-level dialogue on bilateral security issues from now on. This decision was taken at a meeting between India's Defence Minister AK Antony and his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen here on the occasion of the latter's bilateral visit to India. "It was decided that there should be regular meetings at the level of both Defence Ministers to facilitate exchanges of views on important issues and common security concerns," an official in the Indian Defence Ministry said. An Indian Army Major was among four personnel indicted by a court of inquiry ordered to investigate the allegations of sexual exploitation of local women by Indian peace-keepers serving under the United Nations banner in Congo in 2007-08. Indian Army chief General Bikram Singh told reporters here that these four personnel have been indicted by the court of inquiry, which was completed recently and also brought out that the DNA samples of one of the soldier matched with a kid allegedly fathered by Indian troopers while on posting in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While that soldier was indicted for sexual exploitation of local women.

US multi-business major Textron, which has a robust defence presence, has said it appointed Inderjit Sial as president and managing director for India from October 29, succeeding N.R. Mohanty, who retired after six years with the company. "Inderjit brings with him 23 years of diverse industrial experience and his most recent position was managing director of Saab India Technologies, a position he held since 2010, after having joined Saab in 2008 as vice president industrial cooperation," the company announced in a media release. At Saab, Inderjit was responsible for government relations as well as business development.

Dismissing the blacklisting of a firm from his country by India as a hurdle in military ties, Singaporean Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen has said that the armed forces of the two countries were moving closer to each other more than ever. He also called for a greater role for India in the Asia-Pacific and South East Asian security arrangement and architecture in the present and the future. "Actually, no, it has not affected ties," Ng Eng Hen said when asked if the blacklisting of the Singapore Technology Kinetics by India after its name figured in the bribery case involving a former Ordnance Factory Board chief had affected defence ties between the two nations.

Defence Minister AK Antony has asked the military top brass to beat the expected schedules for completion of critical road projects in the northeastern states, particularly Arunachal Pradesh bordering China, "in view of the current security scenario". Reviewing the development of new infrastructure including airfields along the China border in the North East, Antony said: "We need to go beyond the PDCs (proposed date of completion) in view of the current security scenario," Defence Ministry officials said here. Antony held a meeting to review infrastructure development on the North East border attended by Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne.
