Naval Version of Light Combat Aircraft to Fly In March 2012

India's quest for an indigenous naval combat plane may take wings, when the Light Combat Aircraft's (LCA) naval variant takes to the skies in March this year. This news comes a fortnight after Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma lambasted the Aeronautical Development Agency, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) lab, for the frequent time overruns in the development of the naval version of the indigenous LCA. Agni-5 Test by March 2012 End

Originally planned for a launch by end of February this year, India will now try and test its 5,000-km range Agni-5 in March this year, to enter a league of select nations with missiles that can hit targets at that distance, many a times much beyond within their continent. This was conveyed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Dr. V.K. Saraswat at Bangalore on the sidelines of a function to mark the silver jubilee of Defence Avionics and Research Establishment, a DRDO lab. Indian Air Force Chief at Singapore Air Show

To participate in the air show hosted by Singapore, Indian Air Force (IAF) chief Air Chief Marshal Norman Anil Kumar Browne is there in the Southeast Asian island nation on a four-day visit from Monday. Singapore is hosting the global airshow for aviation companies to woo the lucrative Asian market for private jets and defence hardware. Indian Army Chief in Britain on Official Visit

To build on existing defence cooperation with United Kingdom, Indian Army chief General VK Singh is in London on a four-day official visit beginning Tuesday. To be in United Kingdom till February 17, Gen Singh will interact with senior British military and civilian leadership, apart from discussing defence bilateral ties between the two countries, according to Indian Army officials. Defence Minister Antony’s Debut Saudi Arabia Visit to Build Defence Ties Starts Today

India’s defence ties with the Arab world are set to escalate as the Indian Defence Minister AK Antony embarks on a 2-day visit to Saudi Arabia today. This will be the first-ever visit by the Defence Minister to Riyadh and he will be accompanied by a high-level military delegation including the deputy head of the Indian Army and Defense Secretary. He will hold meetings with top Saudi Ministers and other political leaders with the aim of holding a security dialogue to provide thrust to the two countries' defence cooperation. Read More...
