Kolkata Gets Coast Guard Regional Headquarters

India has opened its fifth Coast Guard regional headquarters in Kolkata that will keep a watchful eyes on coastal security of the nation's northeastern region. West Bengal Governor and former Intelligence Bureau chief MK Narayanan formally declared the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East) and the co-located Coast Guard Station open and commissioned it. Indian Coast Guard Director General Vice Admiral MP Muralidharan and a large number of civilian and military dignitaries were present on the occasion. India, Ukraine Ink Defence Cooperation Framework

India and Ukraine have signed a defence framework agreement to further expand their ties in the security field, strengthening their already robust military arms and ammunition business ties. The agreement in this regard was signed in the presence of India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych after their comprehensive bilateral talks. After the talks, Singh said in a statement that the two nations were already undertaking defence projects under bilateral cooperation and the latest defence agreement establishes a new framework for expanding the ties. No Chinese Equipment on IAF Aircraft Supplied By the US

There is no counterfeit Chinese equipment on any of the military aircraft supplied by the United States, Defence Minister AK Antony has said. While citing a list of suppliers acquired from the US. In written reply to a question in the House, Antony said the government was aware of media reports regarding possible usage of Chinese counterfeit electronic parts in military aircraft manufactured in the US. He was asked whether government was aware that some of Chinese counterfeit electronics parts may have been used in military jets which have been sold to India. Give Us Bigger Role in MMRCA, Dassault to Defence Ministry

Seeking a greater responsibility in the MMRCA contract, French firm Dassault Aviation has asked the Defence Ministry to define the role of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in the project. If the contract is finalised, the first 18 aircraft would be supplied by Dassault directly to the Indian Air Force and the remaining 108 would be licence-produced at HAL facilities in Bangalore. The French Dassault has asked the Ministry to define the role of the premier Indian aerospace company in the final delivery of the 108 aircraft to be produced in India, industry sources said here. Sikkim Scouts to Be Raised By 2015

With the India's Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) clearing the proposal, the Indian Army will raise by 2015 a new 900-man Sikkim Scouts battalion, primarily to guard the 200-km border with Tibet along the Himalayan state at a cost of $600 million. The Sikkim Scouts will be on the lines of Ladakh Scouts, raised in 1973 in Jammu and Kashmir, for mountain warfare. The force, to be deployed in the high altitudes of Sikkim, will draw its manpower from the eligible youth of the 540,000 population of the state. The census lists about 60 per cent of the state's population as youth less than 24 years of age. "The Sikkim Scouts will guard some key passes and sectors in the mountainous areas of the state, apart from routes of ingress and egress," a senior Indian Army officer said. Read More...
