India to Name MMRCA Pick by Mid-January 2012

Hindustan Shipyard Financial Restructuring worth $200 Million

Indian Defence Ministry's quest to take over the Visakhapatnam-based Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) from the Shipping Ministry and convert it into a defence public sector shipyard has been completed with the implementation of a financial restructuring package worth $200 million (Rs.825 crore) this financial year, the parliament has been informed. Kaveri Engine Completes 55-Hour Flight Tests on IL-76

India-made Kaveri engines have gone through 27 flights of 55 hours duration on the Russian-origin IL-76 aircraft, the Indian parliament has been informed. Defence Minister A.K. Antony told parliament that India has so far developed nine prototypes of the Kaveri engines and four prototypes of the Kabini (core engines). Both the indigenous engines have so far gone through a total of 2,050 hours of testing at both ground and altitude conditions for various requirements including performance, operability, endurance and environmental. Coast Guard to issue medium lift chopper tender next in January

The Indian Coast Guard will issue a global tender in January for procuring 14 medium-lift choppers in which the Request for Proposal (RFP) will be received by firms including Eurocopter, Sikorsky and Agusta Westland. “We are planning to issue tenders for 14 shore-based helicopters for maritime surveillance and search and rescue operations in January,” Coast Guard sources told to Defencenow.com. The helicopters would be above medium-weight class and the twin engines on them would help in providing additional safety to the air crew while operating over the sea, they said. Read More...

Army to Issue Several Tenders for F-INSAS Project

Giving a fillip to its USD five billion infantry soldier modernisation project, the Indian Army is planning to soon issue global tenders for light-machine guns, modular bullet-proof jackets, holographic reflex weapon sights, soldier-wearable computers, and communication and surveillance equipment.
