EADS and Ilyushin in the Tanker Race

EADS and Russian Ilyushin in race for USD 3 bn refueller aircraft tender New Delhi: The Indian Air Force is carrying out the Field Evaluation trails of Russian and European aircraft for its tender to procure six mid-air refueller aircraft for worth over USD 3 billion. "We are in the process of completing the FET and will soon submit the trial report to the Defence Ministry for further action," sources told Defencenow.com. DRDO Lab R&De to Team With Private Firms for Developing Counter-Mine Flail for Battle Tanks

The state-run Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have decided to focus on completing the development project of Counter Mine Flail (CMF), critical equipment which helps the detonation of anti-tank/anti-personnel mines. DRDO lab called Research and Development Establishment (R&DE) has expressed its intention of teaming with a private player for the speedy development of this crucial equipment. DRDO Developing Air Independent Propulsion for Indian Submarines

India's premier defence research agency is in the process of developing the 'Air Independent Propulsion (AIP)' technology that will enable future Indian-built submarines stay underwater for longer than a conventional submarine. The full scale operation of a land-based prototype of the indigenously built AIP system is likely to be demonstrated by 2015. Defence Minister A K Antony told parliament in written reply to a question that Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO)'s Ambernath-based Naval Material Research Laboratory (NMRL) is working on a technology demonstration project for "Development of Land-based Prototype for AIP" for submarine propulsion. IAF Procuring Surveillance Radars, Reconnaissance Equipment to Upgrade Airfields, Air Defence

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will soon be procuring Surveillance Radar Elements, Precision Approach Radars, UHF Ground-to-Air Radio sets and Commutated Automatic Direction Finder systems to upgrade the equipment at it airfields, the Indian Parliament was informed. Antony told the lower house in written replies to questions from Members of Parliament that the IAF's Modernisation of Air Field Infrastructure (MAFI) project is progressing to improve and modernise the navigational aids at all IAF airfields. Private Shipyards have Scored over Indian Defence Public Sector Yards

Defence Minister A.K. Antony Monday told parliament that India's defence public sector shipyards are losing tender bids for construction of a number of naval ships and craft to private shipyards in the recent times due to high cost of its labour and delays in procurement of materials. This rising number of defence orders being bagged by private shipyards has highlighted the lack of efficiency of public sector shipyards and cast a shroud over their ability to cater to the needs of Indian Navy and Coast Guard.
