Saab Going To AeroIndia with Large Product Portfolio

Swedish defence major Saab will participate in this year's AeroIndia at Yelahanka air base in Bangalore from February 6 to 10 with a large portfolio of products, apart from a 70-official strong global team being present on the show days at the venue. After having had a major presence in AeroIndia 2011, Saab will present a products covering the land, air, naval and civil security domains at AeroIndia 2013. Saab Chief Executive Officer Hakan Buskhe and the heads of Saab's Business Areas, Head of Market Area Lars Olof Lindrgen and Managing Director for India Niklas Nieminen would be present at the show his year, according to the company. Upgraded Sindhurakshak Handed Over To India

An upgraded and refitted diesel-electric submarine from the Indian Navy fleet was handed back to India by Russia after ove two years of overhaul and refurbishing works. The major refit of the Russian-origin INS Sindurakshak (S63) was carried out at Russia's Zvezdochka shipyard. The upgrade and modernisation of Sindhurakshak, a Project 877 EKM NATO Kilo-class submarine, was done under a contract signed in June 201, according to officials. Under the refit programme, the submarine got Klub-S 3M54E1 anti-ship and 3M14E land attack 200-km-range cruise missiles systems retrofitted. Read More...

India Inches Towards N-Triad Capability, Successfully Tests Missile

India got a step closer to having a nuclear weapon triad capability to fire missiles with nuclear warhead from under the sea with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completing the development trials of the K-15 missile. With the test, India became the 5th nation in the world after US, Russia, France and Chine with such a capability and is gearing up to induct the missile in its first indigenous nuclear-powered submarine, INS Arihant, which itself is readying to head for the sea trials later this year. Probably, this is what Indian Navy chief Admiral DK Joshi alluded to last month when he promised "good news soon" on the nuclear weapons capability of the nation. Read More...

Nirbhay First Test-Firing in February

The first test-firing of the test sub-sonic, medium range cruise missile Nirbhay, will be carried out in February off the coast of Odisha. Nirbhay is being developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), a Defence Research and Development Organisation lab based here, V K Saraswat, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister, told a press conference here. "This is in the final stage of integration and we expect to launch it next month", Saraswat, also Secretary in the Department of Defence (R&D) and DRDO Director General, said. INS Vikramaditya's Brick Work Complete, Ready for Final Trials

After four months of work on INS Vikramditya, which reported a boiler malfunction, Russia has completed the brick-lining work and is getting ready to take the Indian Navy warship out for sea trials in the Barents by June this year. The Russian-built warship, the erstwhile Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier, will be ready to join the Indian Navy fleet as per the revised schedule of last quarter of 2013, senior Indian Navy officers said here. Incidentally, The Indian Navy's this year tableau during the Republic Day parade will be a replica of the 44,500-tonne Vikramaditya. Read More...
