India to Supply Coastal Radars, Dornier Plane to Seychelles

Amid China's bid to step up ties with Seychelles, India has signed three pacts with the Indian Ocean archipelago nation to combat piracy by supplying coastal surveillance radar systems and Dornier aircraft. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his Seychelles counterpart Jean-Paul Adam held wide-ranging discussions on international, regional and bilateral issues and took stock of the current status of the ties between the countries, including security cooperation. India's Coastal Radar Chain By This Year-End

India's post-Mumbai 26/11 terror strike plans to have a chain of radar stations as part of its coastal security apparatus will be ready along the peninsular mainland by the end of 2012 and those in the island territories by 2013, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Director General Vice Admiral MP Muralidharan has said. "We have a chain of radar stations that have been set up for the entire coastal security network which will be ready at the end of this year along the mainland and early next year it will be ready in our island territories,". Indian Army Chief General V K Singh Visit to Israel

With India and Israel working together on several military projects, Army Chief General V K Singh is scheduled to be in Tel Aviv on a three-day visit starting next month. Gen Singh is scheduled to visit Israel from March 16 to 18 where he will hold talks with the top military and political leadership, Army sources told Defencenow.com here. The Army Chief is also expected to discuss the future joint development defence programmes with his Israeli counterparts. India and Israel have been sharing greater defence cooperation since diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Tel Aviv were established in 1992. Read More...

Naval Version of Light Combat Aircraft to Fly In March 2012

India's quest for an indigenous naval combat plane may take wings, when the Light Combat Aircraft's (LCA) naval variant takes to the skies in March this year. This news comes a fortnight after Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma lambasted the Aeronautical Development Agency, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) lab, for the frequent time overruns in the development of the naval version of the indigenous LCA. Post MMRCA, French Firms Stand Tall in the Indian Defence Market

With the selection of the Dassault Aviation’s Rafale combat aircraft in the biggest defence deal worth roughly $ 11 billion for Indian Air force (IAF), the French firm Thales also stands to gain a substantial chunk of the deal. French firm Thales will stand to gain 25 percent of the value of the MMRCA contract since it will supply the active electronic array radar and onboard electronics. Besides the MMRCA, the Mirage fighters upgrade deal will also involve French giants Dassault and Thales besides European consortium MBDA. Read More...
