India to Supply Coastal Radars, Dornier Plane to Seychelles
Amid China's bid to step up ties with Seychelles, India has signed three pacts with the Indian Ocean archipelago nation to combat piracy by supplying coastal surveillance radar systems and Dornier aircraft. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his Seychelles counterpart Jean-Paul Adam held wide-ranging discussions on international, regional and bilateral issues and took stock of the current status of the ties between the countries, including security cooperation. Expanding counter-piracy cooperation figured prominently during the talks.

Naval Version of Light Combat Aircraft to Fly In March 2012
India's quest for an indigenous naval combat plane may take wings, when the Light Combat Aircraft's (LCA) naval variant takes to the skies in March this year. This news comes a fortnight after Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma lambasted the Aeronautical Development Agency, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) lab, for the frequent time overruns in the development of the naval version of the indigenous LCA. DRDO chief Dr. VK Saraswat said in Bangalore Monday that the naval LCA may have its maiden flight in a month from now.
Post MMRCA, French Firms Stand Tall in the Indian Defence Market
With the selection of the Dassault Aviation’s Rafale combat aircraft in the biggest defence deal worth roughly $ 11 billion for Indian Air force (IAF), the French firm Thales also stands to gain a substantial chunk of the deal. French firm Thales will stand to gain 25 percent of the value of the MMRCA contract since it will supply the active electronic array radar and onboard electronics. Besides the MMRCA, the Mirage fighters upgrade deal will also involve French giants Dassault and Thales besides European consortium MBDA.
