First Flight of Naval Tejas LCA Suffers Delays Casting Doubts Over Entire Tejas Programme

India’s indigenous Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme has once again come under criticism due to the continual delays in the first flight of its first carrier-borne naval version of Tejas. The naval prototype version (NP-1) has again failed to take to the skies in January this year as planned. Italian Firm Selex Sistemi to Provide Naval Radars for Indigenous Warship INS Vikrant

Selex Sistemi Integrati, part of the Italian major Finmeccanica company, has inked a contract with state-owned Cochin Shipyard Limited for the delivery of naval radar for India’s indigenous aircraft carrier. As per the contract, the Italian firm Selex will deliver the air surveillance naval radar RAN 40L and IFF radar for the 40,0000 tonne warship INS Vikrant. India’s Indigenous Saras Aircraft to Fly by Year-End as NAL Modifies Its Air-Frame and Engine

India’s ambitious indigenous project, the twin-engine 16-seater ‘Saras’ light transport aircraft, has a made a comeback as its third prototype gets ready to fly by the end of 2012. Designed by the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), the third prototype called ‘Saras’ Production Standard Aircraft (PSA) has been modified and is under production at NAL. ‘Tejas’ LCA Limited Series Production Aircraft LSP-7 to Make its Debut Flight this Month

With the completion of the engine ground run (EGR) and other crucial trials of the homegrown ‘Tejas’ Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), the Indian Air Force (IAF) will soon receive the LSP-7, the seventh LCA from limited series production block for user trials. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), designers of the LCA, has indicated that the ‘Tejas’ aircraft LSP-7 will take to the skies within this month. MiG-29s, Jaguars and Mirages Upgrades within This Decade

India's upgrade programmes for its key fighter aircraft MiG-29, Jaguars and Mirage-2000 are expected to be completed within a decade. The three aircraft upgrades will be completed only by 2016, 2017 and 2021 respectively, sources told defencenow.com. India had in July 2011 signed a $2.4-billion contract with French firms Thales and Dassault for the upgrade of 51 Mirage-2000 from three Indian Air Force (IAF) squadrons and another contract has been signed with Bangalore-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
