Italian Firm Selex Sistemi to Provide Naval Radars for Indigenous Warship INS Vikrant

Selex Sistemi Integrati, part of the Italian major Finmeccanica company, has inked a contract with state-owned Cochin Shipyard Limited for the delivery of naval radar for India’s indigenous aircraft carrier. As per the contract, the Italian firm Selex will deliver the air surveillance naval radar RAN 40L and IFF radar for the 40,0000 tonne warship INS Vikrant. Committee on Security Clears Phase II of Project Seabird

Government has cleared a Rs 10,000 crore major expansion plan of the strategic Karwar naval base in Karnataka where the navy is planning to berth its Russian-origin Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier. In the last meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cleared the Phase II Alpha of the project Seabird in Karwar which will see a number of strategic and conventional submarines being deployed there, Navy sources said to defencenow.com. India Floats out Its First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier 'INS Vikrant' From Cochin

India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC-1) for the Indian Navy has been floated out at state-owned Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) during a ceremony attended by high-ranking naval officials and ministers. The IAC-1 is a 40,000 tonne air defence platform and will be named INS Vikrant. Due to delays in the projects, the INS is likely to enter service only in 2015. India's Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Temporarily Floats Out of Dry Dock

India's Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) being built at Kochi-based Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) was floated out of the dry dock last week at a low-profile function, as the dry dock was needed by the shipyard to meet another commercial vessel's commitment. The warship, that will be a 40,000-tonne vessel at the end of its construction and rechristened INS Vikrant, will be brought back into the dry dock and the building bay in a few months time to complete the fitting of its propulsion gear box, generators and other critical equipment before it is launched into the waters again, navy sources said here. Indian Navy to Grow into 150-Ship, 500-Aircraft Force by 2027

India's Navy will look like a "brand new" force by 2027 with a combatants level of 150-odd warships and another 500-odd aircraft fleet, even as it is also preparing to induct 49 new warships and submarines in the next few years that are on order with both Indian and foreign shipyards. This was revealed by Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma to coincide with the Navy Day celebrated on December 4.
