Agusta Westland and Elbit in Race for Navy's Sea King Midlife Upgrade Deal

European Agusta Westland and Israeli Elbit are in the final stages of the race for the over USD 400 million tender to upgrade the anti-submarine warfare Sea King choppers of the Indian Navy. “We have carried out the Field Evaluation Trials (FET) of the systems and upgrades offered by Elbit and Agusta Westland and the trial report has been submitted to the Defence Ministry for final award of the contract,” navy sources said to Defencenow.com. Multi Role Helicopters for the Indian Navy

The Indian Navy has completed the field evaluation trails of the two participating helicopters in the USD one billion deal for procuring 16 multirole helicopters for augmenting its rotary wing anti-submarine warfare fleet. GRSE Launches Second Anti-Submarine Corvette ‘Kadmatt’ In Kolkata for Indian Navy

The public sector shipyard Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has launched the second homegrown anti-submarine warfare (ASW) called ‘Kadmatt’ for the Indian Navy. The Kadmatt ASW is part of Indian Navy’s Project -28 which aims to modernize the navy by creating stealth corvettes to destroy enemy submarines. Indian Navy Commissions Second P-17 Stealth Frigate 'INS Satpura'

The second of the three Project-17 class stealth frigates, namely INS Satpura, has been commissioned into the Indian Navy by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma in Mumbai. INS Satpura is a P-17 class or Shivalik class frigate constructed at Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL). Admiral Verma stated that commissioning of INS Satpura will strengthen the fighting fleet of the Indian Navy and its improved survivability; maneuvering and stealth ability will act significantly towards navy’s status as blue water navy. The excessive delays and cost escalation in various homegrown warship building exercises of Indian Navy has been brought to the notice of the Indian Parliament. The key projects plagued by delays and cost escalation include the Project 15A involving the K olkata -class guided missile destroyers, Project 17 involving the Shivalik -class stealth frigates and Project 28 involving the Kamorta -class Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) corvettes.
