Sikorsky Offers M-70 B Sea Hawk Chopper to the Navy, Plans Production Hub in Hyderabad

The US aerospace major Sikorsky has offered to make the naval variant of the Black Hawk helicopter in India once the Indian Navy decides to buy it for its fleet. The M-70B Sea Hawk will be the naval variant which, according to Boeing, can be co-produced in India with significant transfer of technology and manufacturing capability. NH-90 Complains Against Sikorsky in MRH Deal

A new controversy has surrounded the Navy tender to procure 16 multirole helicopters with the Agusta Westland-led NH-90 helicopters complaining to the Defence Ministry about the capabilities of the rival firm Sikorsky-70B chopper. The complaint from NH-90 has come three months after the navy completed the field evaluation trials in the tender. Multi Role Helicopters for the Indian Navy

The Indian Navy has completed the field evaluation trails of the two participating helicopters in the USD one billion deal for procuring 16 multirole helicopters for augmenting its rotary wing anti-submarine warfare fleet. Trials of the American Sikorsky S-70B and European NH-90 have been completed and the report is being studied by the Navy at the moment, Defence Ministry sources said to Defencenow.com here. Boeing Readies First P-8I Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft for India

India’s maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities will achieve a major boost as Boeing readies the first of the P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft this month for India. The U.S aviation major Boeing has begun the final assembly of the P-8I aircraft and India is its first international customer.

India to Procure Naval Multi-Role Helicopters

In order to complement its fleet of multi-role helicopters, the Indian Navy has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the procurement of new Naval Multi Role Helicopters (NMRH). The primary roles of these choppers will be anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW) and special commando operations. Other roles include electronic intelligence, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation and cargo transportation.
