Army, IAF Aerial Battle over Apaches
Against the backdrop of Army’s plans to seek transfer of attack helicopters from the IAF, Air Force Chief N A K Browne on Sunday said the soon-to-be-procured Apache choppers from the US would remain with it as it was an ongoing acquisition. “The Apaches are going to be with us only as it is an ongoing acquisition process,” Air Chief Marshal Browne said on the sidelines of a 1971 war anniversary function. When asked to clarify whether the Apaches were being procured from the US would be with the IAF or the Army. Browne said the Apaches are not just for taking out enemy tanks or for air-to-ground operations but they can be used for multiple tasks such as taking out enemy radar stations and for air-to-air missions.

No Chinese Equipment on IAF Aircraft Supplied By the US
There is no counterfeit Chinese equipment on any of the military aircraft supplied by the United States, Defence Minister AK Antony has said. While citing a list of suppliers acquired from the US. In written reply to a question in the House, Antony said the government was aware of media reports regarding possible usage of Chinese counterfeit electronic parts in military aircraft manufactured in the US. He was asked whether government was aware that some of Chinese counterfeit electronics parts may have been used in military jets which have been sold to India. The IAF has acquired a list of supplier from the US government with respect to aircraft.

Indian Army to Acquire Helicopter-Borne Early Warning Systems
The Indian Army’s aviation wing will get a major fillip as the procurement of helicopter-borne early warning systems for the land force nears finalization. At present, Indian Army is preparing the details and specifications of the early warning system and a tender will be issued soon. The early warning systems will be integrated with attack helicopter squadrons that the Army will induct in the near future. According to sources, Indian Army is finalizing the specifications of the early warning system which is also expected to be incorporated into the Advance Light Helicopters. As of now, the army is deciding to either rope in private sector players or give the order to state-run Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to design and develop the system.

Indian Army to Get Own Attack Helicopters Fleet
Indian Army's plans to have a fleet of attack helicopters to provide air power support to its fighting units on the ground got a boost, with the Defence Ministry settling in its favor a long festering dispute it had with the Indian Air Force (IAF) on who would hold the air assets. However, its other plan to have a medium helicopter fleet for tactical air lift has been struck down, with the Defence Ministry deciding that the IAF will be force that will carry out logistics for the army troops in the foreseeable future too. The decisions were intimated by the Defence Ministry to the army and the air force through a letter, after National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon advised Defence Minister AK Antony in the matter.

NSA Asked To Intervene In Army-IAF Chopper Fight
The Defence ministry has asked the National Security Adviser to intervene and suggest a way out of the tussle between the IAF and the Army over control of attack and medium-lift choppers. The Army has been demanding control over attack and medium-lift helicopters saying they are mainly used for its operations and that is why they should be under it. The IAF has been strongly opposing the demand. The Defence Ministry is seeking advice of the NSA on the issue as to who should control the attack and medium-lift helicopters in the country, Army sources said here. The Army is hopeful that the issue would be decided keeping in mind its operational necessities and requirements, they said.
