India's DRDO Told To Speed up Projects

India's defence research agency, the DRDO, has been told to speed up its weapons and systems development programmes to ensure self-reliance in fulfilling the armed forces' needs from indigenous sources. The direction from Defence Minister AK Antony comes a week after the Comptroller and Auditor General, India's official auditors, slammed the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for deficiencies in its projects and procedural lapses in obtaining sanction for its new projects. Arjun Mark II Battle Tank with New Upgrades Undergoes Trials in Rajasthan for Army

The state-run Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has started a fresh round of trials for the Arjun Mark II battle tanks with upgrades in the Pokhran firing range in Rajasthan. According to DRDO spokesperson Ravi Gupta, the trials will continue for about two months and the focus will be on 19 parameters that will highlight the improvements in the tank. Arjun, Dhruv Get Thumbs Up From Indian Army Chief

Giving his thumbs up to indigenous Arjun battle tanks and Dhruv advanced light helicopters, Indian Army chief General V.K. Singh described the two military machines as "good" though they had some problems that are being rectified. "It is a good tank in terms of mobility and such," Singh said here when asked to comment on the performance of Arjun that the Army has been operating in the deserts of Rajasthan for the last one year since a regiment was raised. DRDO Lab R&De to Team With Private Firms for Developing Counter-Mine Flail for Battle Tanks

The state-run Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have decided to focus on completing the development project of Counter Mine Flail (CMF), critical equipment which helps the detonation of anti-tank/anti-personnel mines. DRDO lab called Research and Development Establishment (R&DE) has expressed its intention of teaming with a private player for the speedy development of this crucial equipment. CVRDE to Develop Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle for Indian Army

In order to aid the Indian Army during its combat missions and operations, a new Armoured Repair and Recovery vehicle is being developed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE).
