India Takes Delivery of First 4 Engines for Its Boeing C-17s

American aeroengine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corporation, has delivered the first four F117 engines for the Indian Air Force to power its fleet of Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft. In a $4.1-billion deal in mid-2011, India's Ministry of Defence had signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance with the US government in a foreign military sale to acquire 10 C-17s. India will take delivery of its first C-17s in mid-2013. Pratt & Whitney Wins Contract to Supply Engines to Boeing C-17s for India

Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corporation, has recently won a contract to produce the first four F117-PW-100 engines that will power the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III for the Indian Air Force. The engines will be delivered in second quarter of 2012. Earlier this year, India’s Defence Ministry signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance with the US government to acquire 10 C-17s. US Pitches for Attack Helos Deal with India

The Indo-US bi-lateral trade and defence cooperation is continually expanding its scope as both countries are forging increased interaction with each other. While the US has finalised deals worth $5 billion for ten C-17 Globemaster III military transport and 104 General Electric engines for Tejas LCA is around $820 million, the US is now eyeing the $10.2 billion deal for 126 multi-medium role combat aircraft (MMRCA) as well as the $1.4 billion deal for 22 attack helicopters for India.
