Russia Hands Over INS Tarkash To India

Adding to its growing naval might and blue water capabilities, India has inducted a new Russian-built multi-role stealth frigate that carries the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile into its fleet. INS Tarkash, handed over by Russia late last week, will join the Mumbai-based Western Fleet of the Indian Navy by the end of December this year. Captain Antony George, an anti-submarine warfare specialist, will be its first commander. The new guided missile frigate was handed over to the Indian Navy by Russia's United Shipping Corporation at Kaliningrad in western Russia, where the Yantar Shipyard is located on the Baltic Sea. India Test-Fires Brahmos Missile with Indigenous Systems

Strengthening indigenous missile development capabilities, India today successfully test-fired the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the integrated test range at Chandipur off the coast of Orissa. The 32nd test-firing was part of the development trials of the missile which has already been inducted into the Army and the Navy. The objective of the mission was to evaluate some of the newer subsystems which are produced from the Indian industry as part of production stabilisation, BrahMos officials said adding more than 25 such systems were incorporated in the development missile. Induct BrahMos in your Navy, India to Russia

India has asked Russia to start induct the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles in its naval fleet to further strengthen the joint venture between the two countries. The two sides had formed the joint venture to produce the supersonic cruise missiles in 1998 and since then, all three wings of the Indian armed forces have ordered BrahMos for their inventory but the Russian side is yet to do so. In India, the Navy and the Army have already inducted the BrahMos missiles and work is on to develop an air-launched version of the missile to be equipped on the SU-30MKI aircraft. Read More...

Indian Air Chief in Malaysia to Strengthen Defence Ties

India and Malaysia are all set to discuss issues pertaining to bilateral defence cooperation as the Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne is on a four-day visit to Kula Lumpur currently. During his stay till February 4, Indian Air Chief Marshal will meet the Malaysian Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Dato Sri Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zin and Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force Gen Tan Sri Dato Sri Rodzali bin Daud to explore ways to enhance military ties. DRDO to Display Its Missiles at 99th Indian Science Congress

In a bid to showcase India's growth in science and technology in the strategic sector for national security, the Defence Research and Development Organisation will prominently display its series of missiles including the Agni, Prithvi ballistic missiles and the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, at the 99th Indian Science Congress.
