CCS Nod for Raising 2nd Battalion of Arunachal Scouts

Aiming to strengthen military preparedness along the China border, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has cleared a proposal for raising the second battalion of Army's Arunachal Scouts. The CCS meeting here, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, cleared proposal to raise the second battalion of Arunachal Scouts to protect country's boundary with China in the northeastern state, sources said. Phase-2 of Navy’s Karwar Base Expansion Worth $ 2 Billion to Begin after Ccs Approval

The Indian Navy is embarking on a major expansion of the strategic Karwar naval base in the southern state of Karnataka where a host of warships, submarines and the refurbished carrier INS Vikramaditya will be berthed. The expansion of the Karwar naval base will occur under Project Seabird Phase II-A which will entail construction of facilities to the tune of roughly $ 2 billion. Proposal to Equip the Su-30MKI of the IAF with Air-Launched Brahmos Cruise Missile

In the next meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, the Government will consider a proposal to equip the Su-30MKIs of the IAF with air-launched BrahMos cruise missiles. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is soon expected to consider the proposal of the Defence Ministry to procure the air-launched version of the 290-km-range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles for the Indian Air Force, sources said. IAF to procuring 75 Pilatus aircraft from Switzerland with worth over Rs. 1,800 crore

Fulfilling Air Force's long-pending requirement, government on Thursday cleared a proposal worth over Rs. 1,800 crore for procuring 75 Pilatus aircraft from Switzerland to train its rookie pilots. Government has approved the deal to procure 75 Pilatus Basic Trainer Aircraft for IAF, highly placed Defence ministry sources said in New Delhi. Korean Complaint in Basic Trainer Plane Tender Lacks Merit: India

India has rejected a Korean plane manufacturer's complaint against its selection of a Swiss plane as its choice for a basic trainer requirement of its air force. Defence Minister A.K. Antony told Parliament that a representation submitted by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), one of the bidders for the Rs.1,800 crore ($400 million) contract, has been found to be "devoid of merit."
