Airbus MRTT Bags IAF's Air Tanker Deal

Airbus has pipped Russian Ilyushin to bag a deal worth over USD 1.5 billion to supply six mid-air refueling tanker aircraft to the IAF, which will deploy them to extend the striking range of its fighter jets deployed along the Indo-China border in the Northeast. The European Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft has emerged as the lowest bidder in the deal edging out its Russian rival Ilyushin-78 on the basis of life-time cost of operating the respective planes and has been offered the contract, defence sources said here. Indian Army to Increase Troops, Infrastructure and Deploy Armoured Brigades along China Border

The Indian Army’s operational capability along the China border will be getting a major fillip as two tank brigades are soon to be deployed in that region. According to latest media reports, Defence Ministry has cleared the plan to raise six new armoured regiments that will be equipped with roughly 350 tanks. In addition, three mechanised infantry battalions will be raised with 180 BMP-II infantry combat vehicles. Indian Army’s Ladakh-based 14 Corps are to be allocated an armoured brigade to safeguard the region nearing Tibet at Chushul in Ladakh. IAF to Deploy Six Mid-Air Refueling Planes in West Bengal, Heighten Su-30 MKIS Strike Range along China Border

In order to strengthen the might of the Indian Air Force along the Indo-China border, six mid-air refueling tanker aircraft are planned to be stationed at Panagarh air base in West Bengal. The deployment of these tanker aircraft will significantly increase the striking range of the Su-30 MKI fighters at the IAF bases in Assam. The contract for the procurement of six mid-air refueling tanker planes will soon be awarded by the IAF and the Russian-origin Ilyushin-78 and European A-330 MRTT are in the race. CCS Nod for Raising 2nd Battalion of Arunachal Scouts

Aiming to strengthen military preparedness along the China border, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has cleared a proposal for raising the second battalion of Army's Arunachal Scouts. The CCS meeting here, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, cleared proposal to raise the second battalion of Arunachal Scouts to protect country's boundary with China in the northeastern state, sources said. Sino-Indian Military Ties Improve as a Crucial Pact on the Border Issue Gets Signed

With the objective of maintaining all-round cooperation and strategic trust, India and China seem to be heading for an amicable solution to the highly contentious border issue.
