MMRCA Contract to get Bigger as India may opt for 63 more Jets besides the Initial 126 Jets

The biggest defence deal in the world, namely the MMRCA contract wherein Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to acquire 126 combat jets for $ 10.4 billion, is all set to grow bigger. According to defence officials, India is likely to go for another 63 combat jets after the first 126 jets are acquired. Raytheon Offers Weapon System for India’s MMRCA Contract Winner

Expressing its solidarity to India as a trusted partner, US major Raytheon has offered its weapon systems to be integrated into the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) which India is planning to acquire shortly. DRDO Successfully Test-Fires Astra Air-To-Air Missile

India has successfully test-fired the Astra air-to-air guided missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in the eastern state of Orissa. The Astra beyond-visual-range missile will be used to intercept and destroy enemy aircraft at supersonic speeds with a head-on range of 80 kilometres.

Maiden Flight of Naval LCA Prototype in Mid-2011

Following its roll-out last year, the first flight of the naval variant of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) will take place in July this year.
