Defence Minister Confirms the Phasing Out Of MiG-21s From 2014

With the large number of crashes involved in connection to the MiG-21 fleet, Defence Minister AK Antony has announced that the phasing out of the MiG-21 from IAF will begin from 2014. AK Antony added that the IAF will have a new and powerful fleet of next generation aircraft as the MiG-21’s will be completely phased out by 2017. Nine Each Of MRMR, LCA Planes for Navy Approved

In a major boost to the Indian Navy's aviation fleet, the Indian Defence Ministry's Acquisition Council has approved the procurement of nine Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance (MRMR) planes worth $1-billion and the limited series production of another nine carrier-borne Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) for the presently-being-built Indian Aircraft Carrier that will join the fleet some time in 2015. Naval Version of Light Combat Aircraft to Fly In March 2012

India's quest for an indigenous naval combat plane may take wings, when the Light Combat Aircraft's (LCA) naval variant takes to the skies in March this year. This news comes a fortnight after Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma lambasted the Aeronautical Development Agency, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) lab, for the frequent time overruns in the development of the naval version of the indigenous LCA. Eurofighter Better Than Rafale, Willing To Cut Price: UK Minister to India

A week after India rejected the four-nation European consortium from the bid for 126 fighter aircraft deal, Britain today told the Government that its combat aircraft Eurofighter was better than the selected one - Rafale and it was even considering to reduce the price of the aircraft. UK's Minister for International Security Strategy Gerald Howarth took up the issue of India's decision to select the French Rafale aircraft during delegation-level meeting with Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju, sources said. Post MMRCA, French Firms Stand Tall in the Indian Defence Market

With the selection of the Dassault Aviation’s Rafale combat aircraft in the biggest defence deal worth roughly $ 11 billion for Indian Air force (IAF), the French firm Thales also stands to gain a substantial chunk of the deal. French firm Thales will stand to gain 25 percent of the value of the MMRCA contract since it will supply the active electronic array radar and onboard electronics.
