First Flight of Naval Tejas LCA Suffers Delays Casting Doubts Over Entire Tejas Programme

India’s indigenous Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme has once again come under criticism due to the continual delays in the first flight of its first carrier-borne naval version of Tejas. The naval prototype version (NP-1) has again failed to take to the skies in January this year as planned. French company Dassault Aviation's Rafale has won the $10.4 billion MMRCA deal

French major Dassault Rafale today bagged India's biggest-ever multi-billion dollar deal for procuring 126 combat aircraft for the air force. In the tender, the French firm was declared as the lowest bidder, who according to the Indian defence procurement procedure is offered the deal. 'The French firm Dassault Rafale has emerged as the L1 (lowest bidder) and cheaper than its European rival EADS in the tender and will be offered to supply the aircraft to the IAF,' informed sources said here. ‘Tejas’ LCA Limited Series Production Aircraft LSP-7 to Make its Debut Flight this Month

With the completion of the engine ground run (EGR) and other crucial trials of the homegrown ‘Tejas’ Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), the Indian Air Force (IAF) will soon receive the LSP-7, the seventh LCA from limited series production block for user trials. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), designers of the LCA, has indicated that the ‘Tejas’ aircraft LSP-7 will take to the skies within this month. India's Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Temporarily Floats Out of Dry Dock

India's Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) being built at Kochi-based Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) was floated out of the dry dock last week at a low-profile function, as the dry dock was needed by the shipyard to meet another commercial vessel's commitment. The warship, that will be a 40,000-tonne vessel at the end of its construction and rechristened INS Vikrant, will be brought back into the dry dock and the building bay in a few months time to complete the fitting of its propulsion gear box, generators and other critical equipment before it is launched into the waters again, navy sources said here. $7 Billion Spent On Indian Army Procurements in Last Four Years

Indian Army had spent a total of $7 billion on its procurement between 2007-08 and 2010-11 financial years, of which 2010-11 spending was to the tune of $2.3 billion, the Indian parliament was informed. Defence Minister A.K. Antony told the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) Wednesday that Indian spent a total of Rs.34,517 crore (nearly $7 billion) on army procurements in the four years since 2007. Antony noted that the spending on the Indian Army's requirements of new weapons had steadily grown since 2007-08. Read More...
