India All Set To Ink MCMV Deal With South Korea

India is all set to ink a deal with a South Korean shipyard for building eight minesweepers and hunters for its navy in its quest to overhaul its existing fleet of such specialised warships. The deal comes at a time when New Delhi's "strategic" partnership with Seoul is growing and the latter has expressed interest in joining an anti-piracy patrol in Gulf of Aden carried out by India along with China and Japan. HAL, Coast Guard ‘Headless Chickens’ For More Than Three Weeks

Two critical appointments in the Defence Ministry have hit the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) roadblock, affecting the functioning of these organisations. The appointments for the chiefs of premier aerospace organisation Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Director General of Coast Guard have not been cleared by the ACC due to various reasons and the two have been headless for close to a month, Defence Ministry sources told Defencenow.Com. Indian Navy to Get South Korean Minesweepers in its Fleet

India has taken a decision to go forward with a South Korean shipyard for the construction of eight minesweepers for the Indian Navy. India has been on a quest to replace its ageing minesweeping ships in the fleet for a while and the Indian Defence Ministry will soon place the order. The Indian Navy wants the minesweepers to be an important element of its blue-water navy for the protection of Indian interests from the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.
