Swedish Defence Major Saab Signs MoU with Pipavav Defence to Expand Footprint in India

The Swedish Defence giant Saab’s latest strategy to penetrate into the Indian market has come in the form of an MoU with the private sector Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering. A Technical Partnership Agreement has been signed that will enable continuation of an ongoing co-operation between Saab and Pipavav and will involve a $ 38 million strategic investment in the Indian firm Pipavav Defence by Saab. President and CEO of Saab Hakan Buskhe has indicated that the latest partnership is part of Saab’s long-term strategy to exploit the lucrative market in India. DCNS France Opens New Facility for Scorpene Project, Seeks More JVS to Make Components Indigenously

The French shipbuilding major DCNS has opened a dedicated facility in Hyderabad in partnership with the local SEC Industries for making critical components for the Scorpene submarines. DCNS, Pipavav Tie-Up For Shipbuilding Technologies

India's private sector Defence firm Pipavav has entered into a partnership with French Defence major DCNS to acquire European shipbuilding and other naval technologies for indigenous use. The decision to establish a strategic partnership between Pipavav and DCNS was announced here in India. Under the arrangement, Pipavav will get DCNS' technologies, methods and skills. French Major DCNS Has Signed a Deal Worth Over Euros 50 Million

French major DCNS has signed a deal worth over Euros 50 million with Indian SEC Industries for the manufacturing components of the Scorpene submarine. In addition to executing the contract, SEC Industries will benefit from the transfer of technology from the French company. DCNS, is one of Europe's leading shipbuilders. The over 350-year-old company, has bagged a huge contract from India to supply six Scorpene attack submarines, which are under construction at the Mazagon Dock Ltd (MDL), Mumbai. Read More...

Scorpene Submarine Sea Trials By 2013

After several hick ups in the programme, the first of the six Scorpene submarines ordered by the Indian Navy will be launched for sea trials in 2013, a top DCNS official said today. India had placed orders for six Scorpene submarines with French firm DCNS in 2005, of which the first is expected to be commissioned into the Navy by mid-2015 after a delay of around three years.
