Defence Ministry Proposes QR-SAMs for the Army and Dornier Aircraft for IAF

The Indian Defence Ministry is taking serious measures to equip the Armed Forces as it proposes acquisition of new generation missiles for the Indian Army and Dornier aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Defence Ministry has proposed a $ 2.4 billion deal for the Indian Army for the procurement of Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missiles (QRSAMs). Indian Defence Ministry to Create Data Base for Acquisitions

India's Defence Ministry has begun the process of creating a data base on the acquisitions it plans to make for its army, navy and air force. This information was given to the parliamentary standing committee by Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma, who deposed before it in April on the ministry's demands for grants for 2012-13. MP Seeks CVC Probe in Navy's Scorpene Torpedo Deal

The Navy's deal for procurement of torpedoes for Scorpene submarines from an Italian company has come in for questioning with a Member of Parliament writing to the Central Vigilance Commission seeking a probe into alleged corruption in the selection. Jainarayan Prasad Nishad, who had earlier written to Defence Minister A K Antony, has alleged that WASS heavy water torpedo was selected for procurement "without validation of critical parameters at sea for speed and range" as specified in the Request for Proposal (RFP). India's Military Modernisation Up To 2027 Gets Approval

India's plans for modernising its armed forces during the next five years and over the next 15 years beginning April 2012 has been approved by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister AK Antony. The approval comes a year behind schedule, but at least within two days of the two plan periods having started. The 15-year Long-Term Integrated Perspective Plan (LTIPP) from 2012 to 2027 and the five-year Defence Plan from 2012 to 2017 got "in principle" approval, a defence ministry official said here. Nine Each Of MRMR, LCA Planes for Navy Approved

In a major boost to the Indian Navy's aviation fleet, the Indian Defence Ministry's Acquisition Council has approved the procurement of nine Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance (MRMR) planes worth $1-billion and the limited series production of another nine carrier-borne Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) for the presently-being-built Indian Aircraft Carrier that will join the fleet some time in 2015.
