India, Russia Ink Key Defence Pacts
India and Russia have inked defence contracts worth $2.9 billion during the summit meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Vladimir Putin. The two key deals signed were the $1.6-billion worth 42 Su-30MKI combat aircraft that India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will produce at its facility under licence from Russia Rosoboronexport and Sukhoi Corporation and the $1.3-billion worth 71 Mi-17V5 medium lift helicopters, of which 59 will go to the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the rest 12 to India's paramilitary forces involved in internal security duties.

India, Russia to Sign Key Defence Deals worth $4 Billion
India and Russia are preparing to sign three key defence deals worth $4 billion when Russian President Vladimir Putin comes to New Delhi for a summit meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on December 24. Among the deals planned for inking including the final contract for licenced production of 42 Su-30MKI planes by Indian government-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, purchase of 71 Mi-17V5 medium lift helicopters and 970 AL-31 aero-engines for the Sukhoi combat aircraft. The likely deals were discussed and finalised at the Indian Cabinet Committee on Security headed by Manmohan Singh with participation from Defence Minister AK Antony.

Delay In Flight Trials of Refurbished Gorshkov Carrier to Push Back Its Delivery to Indian Navy
With delays in sea-trials few months back and the current delay in flight trials, it seems that the delivery of the refurbished Admiral Gorshkov (INS Vikamaditya) to India may suffer yet another setback from the earlier agreement. According to reports, flight trials were initiated late and may be suspended due to unexpected weather changes in north Russia. The flight trials on the aircraft carrier Gorshkov involves landing of fighter aircraft on the ship’s deck. While the flight trials were initiated late, they may be stalled later this month due to the onset of near-Arctic conditions in the Russian north. According to reports, the trials would only resume when the weather changes in March next year.

FGFA to Reach India in 2014
India and Russia are planning to sign their biggest ever Defence deal expected to be worth over USD 30 Billion for the fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA), whose first prototype would be brought to India in 2014. The initial version of a fighter plane, being jointly developed by India and Russia and tipped to be one of the most-advanced in the world, will be unveiled in India in 2014. The Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) with stealth features is slated to be inducted in the Indian Air Force by 2022. The two sides are close to signing a key contract expected to be worth over USD 11 billion for research and development phase of the project in the near future. The first prototype of the FGFA is scheduled to arrive in India by 2014 after which it will undergo extensive trials at the Ojhar air base (Mharashtra)...we are hopeful that the aircraft would be ready for induction by 2022," IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne said here.
