Delay In Flight Trials of Refurbished Gorshkov Carrier to Push Back Its Delivery to Indian Navy
With delays in sea-trials few months back and the current delay in flight trials, it seems that the delivery of the refurbished Admiral Gorshkov (INS Vikamaditya) to India may suffer yet another setback from the earlier agreement. According to reports, flight trials were initiated late and may be suspended due to unexpected weather changes in north Russia. The flight trials on the aircraft carrier Gorshkov involves landing of fighter aircraft on the ship’s deck. While the flight trials were initiated late, they may be stalled later this month due to the onset of near-Arctic conditions in the Russian north. According to reports, the trials would only resume when the weather changes in March next year.

U.S Considers Relaxing Defence Export Policies and Seeks Closer Maritime Engagement with India
As a step towards advancement of greater Defence ties, the US is considering reforms in the United States export control system for sensitive dual-use technology and weapon systems for India. With India continuing as the top arms importer in the world, the US aims to win multi-billion contracts for Defence equipment from India by relaxing these laws. In addition, India’s significant geostrategic location and the growing maritime clout have forced the US to have a greater engagement with India to ensure secure international trade through the sea lanes.
