India Spent Nearly $40 Billion on Defence Procurement in Last Three Years

With armed forces modernisation as its focus, India has spent nearly Rs.2 lakh crore (nearly $40 billion) in the last three financial years beginning 2009-10 on procuring defence equipment, the parliament was informed. "In the three years beginning 2009-10, the total expenditure on procurement of defence equipment for the armed forces was Rs.1,98,054.7 crore," Defence Minister AK Antony said in a written reply to questions. India is expected to spend about $100 billion over the next decade to modernise its armed forces, particularly on capital procurements of new weapons and other systems. Read More...

U.S Considers Relaxing Defence Export Policies and Seeks Closer Maritime Engagement with India

Indian Air Chief in Malaysia to Strengthen Defence Ties

India and Malaysia are all set to discuss issues pertaining to bilateral defence cooperation as the Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne is on a four-day visit to Kula Lumpur currently. During his stay till February 4, Indian Air Chief Marshal will meet the Malaysian Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Dato Sri Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zin and Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force Gen Tan Sri Dato Sri Rodzali bin Daud to explore ways to enhance military ties. Indian Defence Spending Amounts to Over $ 98.35 Billion in the Past Decade

Indian Defence Minister A.K.Antony has announced in the Parliament that India has spent over $ 98.35 billion on procurement of defence equipment in the last ten years. Defence Minister stated that this defence expenditure consists of equipment for the Indian Armed Forces from local and foreign firms. This defence expenditure was incurred during 2001-02 till 2010-11. Defence Minister indicated that the upgradation of the Indian Armed Forces has been the key force behind the defence expenditure.
