India, Singapore To Hold Regular Minister-Level Meets

To enhance their military ties further, India and Singapore have agreed to hold regular Defence Minister-level dialogue on bilateral security issues from now on. This decision was taken at a meeting between India's Defence Minister AK Antony and his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen here on the occasion of the latter's bilateral visit to India. PM Reviews Nuclear Preparedness

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with Defence Minister AK Antony to review the preparedness of the nuclear arsenal and preparedness of the nuclear command structure in the country. During the meeting, the prime minister is understood to have been briefed about the overall security measures and the readiness of the Defence forces and the preparedness of the nuclear forces, sources said in New Delhi. Defence Minister to Visit Singapore for Regional Security Dialogue and Maritime Issues

The Defence Minister AK Antony will be leaving for Singapore today to attend the 11th edition of the Shangri La Dialogue organized by the International Institute of Strategic Studies. The Defence Minister will be expounding on issues like freedom of navigation in the South China Sea and other maritime prerogatives. Defence Minister Approves Three-Fold Hike in Financial Powers of Defence Service Chiefs

Following the raging criticism revolving around the defence preparedness of the country and its tardy rate of procurements, the Defence Minister AK Antony has decided to increase the financial powers of the three armed forces headquarters to allow purchases worth $ 30 million. India, Saudi Arabia Agree to Set Up Panel for Defence Cooperation

To provide a boost to their fledgling defence ties, India and Saudi Arabia have agreed to set up a joint committee that will look at ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. This was agreed to by Saudi Defence Minister Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz and Indian Defence Minister AK Antony during the latter's two-day visit to Riyadh Monday and Tuesday. The committee will work out the contours of the bilateral relationship in the defence sphere.
