DRDO Seeks $35 Billion Allocation for Five Years

India's lone state-owned Defence research and development agency has sought about $35 billion from the government for the five-year period till 2017 to ensure its armed forces get modern, latest weapons and military systems from its stable. Defence Ministry sources said that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has asked for the amount under the 12th Plan period from 2012-17 as it wants to diversify its research and development activities and contribute for the Indian armed forces' battle readiness. India's Indigenous 5th-Gen Combat Plane to Boast Of Condition Monitoring Systems

India is developing a new fifth general fighter aircraft and it will have the latest integrated condition monitoring systems covering important systems such as avionics, structural health, air conditioning, and pressure regulation. Rustom-1 Makes 14th Successful Flight

India's indigenously-designed and developed Rustom-1 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) made its 14th successful flight at Kolar in Karnataka, when it attained 11,500 feet above ground level and speed of above 140 kmph during two hours and 10 minutes of cruise. Developed by the Bangalore-based Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) lab, the medium altitude long endurance UAV had its maiden flight in November 2009. India to Continue Developing Agni Family of Missiles

India may have achieved a major success in testing its over 5,000-km Agni-V Long-Range Ballistic Missile to provide itself a 'second strike' deterrence, but this is not the end of the Agni missile programme, it announced. India's top defence scientist VK Saraswat told a press conference in Delhi a day after the Agni-5 test that "there is no question of capping the Agni programme". "The Agni programme will continue and you will see more missiles from this family," Saraswat, who heads the country's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) told a press conference in New Delhi. Tejas LSP-7 Carries Out Successful Maiden Flight

India's indigenous combat plane Tejas's Limited Series Production-7 manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) had its successful maiden flight March 9 In Bangalore. "The Tejas LSP-7 aircraft took-off for its maiden flight from HAL airport at 4:27 pm on March 9," a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials said here. This test flight is significant for the Tejas programme, as the LSP -7 meets the standards that are required for the light combat aircraft's initial operational clearance (IOC). Accordingly, LSP -7 aircraft, along with LSP-8 will be offered to the Indian Air Force for user evaluation trials (UET), DRDO said. Read More...
