Upgraded Submarine INS Sindhurakshak to Be With India by Year End As Sea-Trials Begin In Russia

INS Sindhurakshak, the Indian Kilo class diesel-electric submarine being retrofitted in Russia under Project 08773, has been launched for a two-week sea trial in Russia. According to Zvezdochka shipyard, the submarine has been repaired and modernized and its sea trials started earlier this week. INS Sindhurakshak has been upgraded under a direct contract between the Zvezdochka shipyard and the Indian Defence ministry which was signed in June 2010. Russia Pitches for Production Facility in India as Ammunition Contracts worth $ 1 Billion Get Underway

India’s longstanding Defence partner Russia has decided greater penetration into the Indian Defence market by revealing that it will create a licensed production facility for tank and rocket artillery ammunitions in the country. Victor Komardin, Deputy Head of Russian Defence major Rosoboronexport, has indicated that a production facility to manufacture projectiles for Smerch multi-barrel mobile rocket launchers is on the cards. New Safety Organisation Envisaged For Indian Navy

Indian Navy is envisaging having a new 'Safety Organisation' to enhance safe operations of its warships, submarines and aircraft in view of its increasing fleet strength planned over the next decade. This issue was discussed at the just concluded naval commanders conference held in New Delhi. Indian Navy has had mishaps in the recent months involving its warships and submarines such as merchant vessel MV Nordlake ramming into INS Vindhyagiri when the warship was entering the Mumbai harbour in January 2011 and the mishap on INS Shakush submarine that claimed the life of a navy commander. First Scorpene Induction In Indian Navy By 2015

To augment its depleting conventional submarine fleet, India will induct six Scorpene submarines currently being built at Mumbai's Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL) only from 2015, a full three years behind its original schedule of 2012. The project to build the Scorpenes with technology borrowed from France's DCNS has already had a cost escalation of nearly Rs.5,000 crore or $1 billion. Hindustan Shipyard Financial Restructuring worth $200 Million

Indian Defence Ministry's quest to take over the Visakhapatnam-based Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) from the Shipping Ministry and convert it into a defence public sector shipyard has been completed with the implementation of a financial restructuring package worth $200 million (Rs.825 crore) this financial year, the parliament has been informed.
