India to Test Pinaka Rocket System

India will soon carry out a series of tests of its indigenous multi-barrel rocket system Pinaka's advanced, upgraded version. The tests are likely to be conducted off Chandipur test range on Odisha coast off the eastern seaboard. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) unit, Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), will provide logistics support to the Indian Army personnel, who will perform the user-trials that could take place by this weekend, according to sources. DRDO Scientists Named For India's Highest Civilian Awards

India has named its three key defence scientists for receiving their highest civilian awards this year. President Pranab Mukherjee approved their names to receive the Padma awards as part of the 108 persons chosen for the honour. Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Director General, was chosen for the Padma Bhushan award, which is the second highest civilian award of the country. India Inches Towards N-Triad Capability, Successfully Tests Missile

India got a step closer to having a nuclear weapon triad capability to fire missiles with nuclear warhead from under the sea with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completing the development trials of the K-15 missile. With the test, India became the 5th nation in the world after US, Russia, France and Chine with such a capability and is gearing up to induct the missile in its first indigenous nuclear-powered submarine, INS Arihant, which itself is readying to head for the sea trials later this year. DRDO Holds Parleys with Tata, L&T, BEL for Howitzers

Major Indian private and public sector players including Tata, Mahindra, L&T and BEL are holding parleys with DRDO for developing an indigenous advanced artillery howitzer for the Army. The premier defence research agency recently held an interaction with the stakeholders to explore the feasibility of involving Indian industries in the development of Advance Towed Artillery Guns System (ATAGS), DRDO officials said. "Objective of the interaction was to explore and encourage participation of Indian industries in the ATAGS project and generate a base for its design, development, manufacturing and integration," they said. India Tests Prithvi-II N-Capable Missile

India has successfully tested its Prithvi-2 indigenous nuclear-capable ballistic missile from a test range off Odisha coast in the Bay of Bengal, in what is termed as an user-trial by the nation's strategic forces that handle nuclear weapons. The 350-km-range surface-to-surface missile blasted off from a mobile launcher at the launch complex of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) of Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district, around 230 km from Bhubaneshwar, Odisha's capital.
