IAF to Spend $40 billion On Procurements in Next 10 Years

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to spend over $40 billion (Rs.2 lakh crore) in the next 10 years between 2012 and 2022 on procurement, Deputy Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal RK Sharma has said. "We are on path of modernising our (IAF) assets. In the last five-year plan, IAF procurement was worth around Rs.1.5 lakh crore (about $35 billion) and over next two plan (2012-17 and 2017-22) periods (12th and 13th five-year plans), we envisage to procure assets worth over Rs.2 lakh crore ($40 billion)," Sharma said inaugurating the seventh international conference on 'Energizing Indian Aerospace Industry: Emerging Opportunities and Enduring Partnerships.' FGFA to Reach India in 2014

India and Russia are planning to sign their biggest ever Defence deal expected to be worth over USD 30 Billion for the fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA), whose first prototype would be brought to India in 2014. The initial version of a fighter plane, being jointly developed by India and Russia and tipped to be one of the most-advanced in the world, will be unveiled in India in 2014. The Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) with stealth features is slated to be inducted in the Indian Air Force by 2022. The two sides are close to signing a key contract expected to be worth over USD 11 billion for research and development phase of the project in the near future. The first prototype of the FGFA is scheduled to arrive in India by 2014 after which it will undergo extensive trials at the Ojhar air base (Mharashtra)...we are hopeful that the aircraft would be ready for induction by 2022," IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne said here. HAL Delivers ‘IFF-1410’ System to Navy for P-81 Aircraft, Implements New Procedures for Transparency with Vendors

India’s premier aeronautic laboratory, the state-run Hindustan Aeronauts Limited (HAL) has delivered the first homegrown production unit of Identification of Friend or Foe (IFF-1410) transponder for the Indian Navy’s Boeing P-8I reconnaissance aircraft. The IFF-1410 transponder which is designed, developed and produced by HAL has been handed over to the Indian Navy and will be integrated into the P-81 Poseidon aircraft. Read More...

India Asks Russia for Timely Delivery of Gorshkov and More Orders of Brahmos Missile

India and Russia have recently concluded high-level talks on bilateral trade and key defence projects to which both nations are seriously committed. The Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Rogozin along with his delegation was in India and held talks regarding the BrahMos missile as well as the delivery of the refurbished INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier. Defence Minister Confirms the Phasing Out Of MiG-21s From 2014

With the large number of crashes involved in connection to the MiG-21 fleet, Defence Minister AK Antony has announced that the phasing out of the MiG-21 from IAF will begin from 2014. AK Antony added that the IAF will have a new and powerful fleet of next generation aircraft as the MiG-21’s will be completely phased out by 2017.
