PM Calls for Changes in Defence Scientists Management

India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for changes in the bureaucratic system of managing the scientific community in the country so that youngsters are inspired to join the task of converting the nation into a technology powerhouse. "We have to change our current bureaucratic system of administering scientific and technical departments, particularly if we have to inspire young scientists to participate enthusiastically in the task of building India into a scientific and technological powerhouse," Singh said here. Private Defence Firms Seek Protection Against Weak Rupee

Seeking safeguards against fluctuating value of Rupee, private Indian Defence companies today asked the government to provide them protection under the Foreign Exchange Rate Variation (FERV) policy for conducting business with foreign firms. Demanding an equal and fair treatment against the Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), industry body FICCI also sought appointing a Joint Secretary-rank official in the acquisition wing of Defence Ministry to look after the interests of Indian private sector. DefExpo from March 29 to April 1; FICCI to Manage Event

India has announced that its prestigious and Asia's largest defence exhibition in its capital will be held from March 29 to April 1, 2012. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will be the event managers of DefExpo-2012. The Defence Ministry said the 7th DefExpo-2012, a biennial international defence exhibition on land and naval systems organised by the department of defence production, is expected to attract official delegations from 90 countries.
