Indian Navy is excited for the P-8I to join its fleet

The second of the eight Boeing P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft being built for the Indian Navy has completed its initial flight. The P-8I is a derivative of the Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 commercial airplane, and was tested on July 12, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. Boeing had successfully tested the first of the eight aircraft earlier this month. Boeing Conducts Initial Flight of the First P-81 Reconnaissance Aircraft for Indian Navy

The first P-81 aircraft for the Indian Navy has successfully completed its initial flight in the US as Boeing Company assures India that the P-81 program is progressing well. Indian Navy is to receive eight P-81 long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft from Boeing as part of a contract awarded in January 2009. Indian Navy has decided to go for four additional P-8I aircraft besides the earlier eight which is expected to make the contract worth $ 3.1 billion. Read More...
