Shipyard Modernisation Lapses Not Causing Warships Delays: Antony

Defence Minister A K Antony Wednesday said that there was no connection between the delays in modernisation of the defence shipyards and construction of warships. Antony told the Rajya Sabha (House of States in Indian Parliament) during question hour that "there have been initial delays in modernisation programme of Mazagon Docks Limited (based in Mumbai)." However, the delay in modernisation programme has not contributed directly to the delay in ongoing warship construction projects, he said. Read More...

Rs 200 Crore Home Ministry Tender For 30 Patrolling Boats

As part of efforts to strengthen coastal security, the Home Ministry is planning to issue a Rs 200 crore tender for procuring 30 patrolling vessels for the states on the western sea board. “The Home ministry (MHA) will issue the Rs 200 tender in January this year for procuring 30 patrolling boats with endurance of four to five days in the Sea for the marine police in different states,” sources said to Defencenow.com. Bharat Electronic, Hindustan Aeronautics, Goa Shipyard Best Performers

India's Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has been recognised as the best performing exporter of military products for the year 2009-10 by presenting it the Award for Excellence by the defence ministry. Bangalore based BEL was presented the trophy by Defence Minister AK Antony for achieving exports worth $23.65 million in 2009-10, an increase of 33 per cent over the previous year. Read More...
