Indian Army Chief to Head for Japan and Bangladesh to Boost Military Ties

Keeping up with its agenda of boosting military ties with various countries, the Indian Army Chief Gen.Bikram Singh will be visiting Japan by September-end as well as Bangladesh in October. The Indian Army Chief will be in Japan from September 30 to October 2. Following the Japan visit, the Army Chief will be in Bangladesh from October 3 to October 6. During the Indian Army Chief’s visit to Japan starting this month-end, Gen. Bikram Singh will hold meetings with the top Japanese military leaders to discuss ways of further strengthening Defence ties between the two nations. South Korea Joins In With India, China and Japan to Dispel Piracy in Gulf of Aden

The coordinated tri-nation anti-piracy measures by India, China and Japan in the Gulf of Aden will now be tweaked as South Korea joins in to contribute to maritime security in the region. South Korea intends to make the most of its warships to ensure a safe passage for cargo vessels through the region infested with piracy. This collective anti-patrol effort is the first of its kind military joint effort by these nations and South Korea will be the fourth member of a successful tri-nation maritime venture called “Escort Convoy Coordination”. India Initiates Maritime Cooperation with China and Japan to Ward off Piracy

In order to address the situation of piracy in the Gulf of Aden as well maritime security in the Indian Ocean region, India has decided to work in tandem with China and Japan to ward-off any potential threats. Indian Defence Minister AK Antony has stated in the Parliament that India, China and Japan will align together with their naval might to counter piracy in the region. India to Supply Coastal Radars, Dornier Plane to Seychelles

Amid China's bid to step up ties with Seychelles, India has signed three pacts with the Indian Ocean archipelago nation to combat piracy by supplying coastal surveillance radar systems and Dornier aircraft. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his Seychelles counterpart Jean-Paul Adam held wide-ranging discussions on international, regional and bilateral issues and took stock of the current status of the ties between the countries, including security cooperation. India and Turkey Conduct Joint Naval Exercises in the Arabian Sea

The Indian Navy and the Turkish Navy are currently participating in a joint naval exercise off the Mumbai coast in the Arabian Sea. The joint exercise ending this week was the first of its kind between the two navies and is aimed at building up capabilities related to anti-piracy operations, disaster relief operation and rescue missions.
