Army Asks DRDO to Develop Indigenous Howitzers

Giving a boost to indigenous artillery programme, the Indian Army has pledged to the DRDO that if it proves its 155 mm 52 calibre howitzers in trials, it will place orders for a minimum 150 guns. We have handed over a letter to the DRDO conveying that if it proves its guns in user trials in a specific time frame, we will place orders for at least 150 guns, sources said to Defencenow.com. Indian Army Has Initiated the Process of Acquiring New Gun System

The Indian Army has initiated the process of acquiring new gun systems to take on enemy aircraft and missiles, a month after its chief General V K Singh raised the issue of obsolescence of air Defence systems in a letter to the Prime Minister. "The Army is planning to procure Air Defence Guns have a calibre of more than 30mm and is capable of engaging air targets," Army officials said here. Russia to Begin Delivery of INS Teg and other Talwar Class Stealth Frigates from Early 2012

The Indian Navy is slated to get the stealth frigate INS Teg by early 2012 as Russia has initiated the sea trials of the warship in the Baltic Sea. INS Teg is the first of the three stealth frigates of the Talwar Class which was ordered by India in 2006 under the $ 1.5 billion deal with Russia. Russia is building three Project 11356 Talwar Class (Krivak IV) guided missile frigates for the Indian Navy at the Yantar shipyard in the Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad. Read More...

Trials for upgraded Arjun Mark-II Tanks Begin in Rajasthan

The state-run Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have begun trials for the upgraded version of the indigenous Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark-II in the deserts of Rajasthan. This is the debut testing of the Arjun MBT Mark-II in which the end-user vis-à-vis the Indian Army will witness the exercise which will continue for over a month.
