Dhruv MkIII Inducted Into Indian Air Force

India took another major step in its capabilities to develop indigenous military helicopters, when the MkIII version of its Advanced Light Helicopter or Dhruv was inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF) service at the Bareilly air base in Uttar Pradesh. The first batch of 10 Dhruv MkIII was welcomed into the IAF fleet by Allahabad-based Central Air Command Senior Air and Staff Officer Air Marshal PS Gill on February 8. India to Induct Russian Mi-17V5 in 10 Days

India will formally induct its latest Russian military acquisition, Mi-17V5 helicopters, on February 17, about 10 days from now. Defence Minister AK Antony will that day formally hand over the keys to the first squadron of Mi-17V5 helicopters to the Indian Air Force, marking its entry into Indian service, at a function to be held at Hindon air base in Ghaziabad just outside the national capital. Production of Dhruv ALH for Indian Army Gets Rolling At HAL

After years of indecision and delayed certification from the Army, state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has started work on the production of 159 Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) to be handed over to the Indian Army. The helicopter division of HAL has already produced ALHs which have been handed over to the Border Security Force and exported to foreign nations. In a recent media report, top HAL officials indicated that close to 100 ALH helicopters that are flying in India and abroad. C-130j on Republic Day Parade Flypast for the First Time

Indian Air Force's (IAF) latest acquisition, the Lockheed Martin C-130J transport plane, will be part of the fly past over Rajpath for the first time ever during this year's Republic Day parade in New Delhi on January 26. Three C-130Js will be part of the IAF's 29 aircraft, including air superiority Sukhoi 30-MKI and MiG29 combat plane fly past, a senior IAF officer said here. All six of the C-130J that India bought from US has been delivered to the IAF in 2011. Arjun, Dhruv Get Thumbs Up From Indian Army Chief

Giving his thumbs up to indigenous Arjun battle tanks and Dhruv advanced light helicopters, Indian Army chief General V.K. Singh described the two military machines as "good" though they had some problems that are being rectified. "It is a good tank in terms of mobility and such," Singh said here when asked to comment on the performance of Arjun that the Army has been operating in the deserts of Rajasthan for the last one year since a regiment was raised.
