Navy Planning To Issue World's Largest Chopper Tender

Expanding its size and area of operations, the Indian Navy is planning to issue world's one of the largest multirole helicopters tender with intention of procuring more than 75 such choppers expected to be worth over USD four billion. The Navy had recently asked global helicopter vendors to provide details about naval multirole helicopters and is planning to issue a global Request for Proposal (RFP) in this regard very soon. Tata and Agusta Westland JV To Produce Aw119ke Helicopters In India

The joint venture firm between the European giant Agusta Westland and India’s Tata Sons called Indian Rotorcraft has decided to start the production of AW119Ke light helicopter in India. During the ceremony held in Hyderabad for the construction of the new production facility, Mr.Ratan Tata of Tata Sons and Bruno Spagnolini, CEO, AgustaWestland indicated that the facility will go a long way in contributing to the Indian aerospace industry. Sikorsky Offers M-70 B Sea Hawk Chopper to the Navy, Plans Production Hub in Hyderabad

The US aerospace major Sikorsky has offered to make the naval variant of the Black Hawk helicopter in India once the Indian Navy decides to buy it for its fleet. The M-70B Sea Hawk will be the naval variant which, according to Boeing, can be co-produced in India with significant transfer of technology and manufacturing capability. Currently, the Indian Navy already has a tender for 16 helicopters with an option of eight more twin-engine, 12.5 tonne category helicopters. Read More...

AgustaWestland Denies Irregularity in VVIP Helicopter Deal

Few days after the Defence Ministry ordered a probe to find out if there was any corruption in the VVIP choppers deal, Italian firm Finmeccanica today said its subsidiary AgustaWestland was "not involved in any irregularity" in the Indian tender. Defence Minister A K Antony had ordered a probe on Friday to find out if there was corruption in the Rs 3,500-crore deal to procure 12 helicopters for VVIPs from European defence firm Agusta Westland. Defence Minister A K Antony today ordered a probe to find out if there was corruption in the Rs 3,500-crore deal to procure 12 helicopters for VVIPs from European defence firm AgustaWestland.
