IAF to Acquire 56 Aircraft from Global Vendors, Private Sector Preferred Over Hal

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has taken a bold decision on Monday which tilts in the favour of the private sector players in the Defence sector. The DAC has decided to issue a global tender worth roughly $ 2.4 billion for 56 aircraft which will replace the ageing fleet Of Avro aircraft with the IAF. The decision will enable foreign vendors to enter into a tie-up with a private or public sector company in India. The current decision by DAC has definitely sidelined traditional PSU’s like Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and is seen as a bold move. Mahindra Establishes Two Defence Ventures with Us and Israeli Firms at Def-Expo 2012

At the recently concluded Def Expo India-2012, the 7th Land, Naval and Internal Security Systems Exhibition, private sector major Mahindra & Mahindra Limited has managed to initiate two joint ventures to cater the Indian defence sector. The first agreement has been to form a joint venture with Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and the other with Telephonics Corporation, subsidiary of the North America’s Griffon Corporation. Mirage Upgrade Deal for IAF on the Verge of Approval

The much-awaited deal between India and France for the upgrade of 52 Mirage-2000 multi-role fighters for Indian Air Force (IAF) in expected to be sealed shortly. Defence Ministry has revealed that the Mirage upgrade programme has been pegged at $ 2.4 billion and is now awaiting the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

HAL to initiate new Defence Projects worth $6 billion

India's, Bangalore based, state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. [HAL] is slated to initiate several new projects in the financial year 2011-12.
Senior HAL officials say that the new projects include of the upgrade of HPT-32 trainers, Intermediate Jet Trainers, weaponized Advanced Light Helicopters, Light Utility Helicopters and the additional production of SU-30 MKI Aircraft.
