India, Russia to Sign Key Defence Deals worth $4 Billion

India and Russia are preparing to sign three key defence deals worth $4 billion when Russian President Vladimir Putin comes to New Delhi for a summit meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on December 24. Among the deals planned for inking including the final contract for licenced production of 42 Su-30MKI planes by Indian government-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, purchase of 71 Mi-17V5 medium lift helicopters and 970 AL-31 aero-engines for the Sukhoi combat aircraft. India, Russia Defence Ministers Meeting Postponed

The annual meeting of Defence Ministers of India and Russia, slated for tomorrow, has been deferred till October 10 due to inability of the visiting minister to reach here. The India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC) between Defence Minister A K Antony and his Russian counterpart Anatoly Serdyukov is being held to take stock of the Defence relations. "The meeting of the India-Russia Inter-governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC) which was to be held tomorrow has been deferred due to the inability of the Russian Co-Chair of the Commission and the Defence Minister Serdyukov to travel to India as scheduled," a Defence Ministry release said. Induct BrahMos in your Navy, India to Russia

India has asked Russia to start induct the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles in its naval fleet to further strengthen the joint venture between the two countries. The two sides had formed the joint venture to produce the supersonic cruise missiles in 1998 and since then, all three wings of the Indian armed forces have ordered BrahMos for their inventory but the Russian side is yet to do so. In India, the Navy and the Army have already inducted the BrahMos missiles and work is on to develop an air-launched version of the missile to be equipped on the SU-30MKI aircraft. Read More...

BrahMos Expects New Army Order for Steep Dive BrahMos regiment

BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russia joint venture to produce supersonic cruise missiles of the same name, is expecting a new order from the Indian Army for its latest steep dive capable missiles regiment soon. BrahMos chief executive A Sivathanu Pillai said at DefExpo in Delhi that with the successful testing of the 290-km-range missile on March 28 this year, the Indian Army orders will soon be finalised. BrahMos had also carried out a test of the missile for its upgraded systems successfully on March 30, he added. Read More...
