Pen Drives Usage Threat to National Security

The use of banned pen drives has emerged as the main threat to cyber security in Defence forces as it is responsible for over 70 per cent of such breaches there. The use of pen drives as an easy-to-carry storage device has increased in the recent past and internal reports have confirmed that over 70 per cent cyber security breaches in the armed forces are due to their unauthorised use, Army officials said. "These pen drives, which are mostly manufactured in China, have emerged as a big threat to our cyber security systems," they said. Three New Unified Commands of Armed Forces Being Mulled To Handle Space, Cyberspace and Special Operations

With national security as its top priority, the Indian Armed Forces are working towards the creation of three new unified commands to handle threats and challenges in the area of space, cyberspace and special operations. All the three services are working towards creating a cyber, aerospace and special operations commands which will synergize their operations. Defence Minister Admits Flaw in Recent Brahmos Test, Delay in Tejas LCA Clearance

Indian Defence PSUs have yet again dampened the spirit of the Indian Armed Forces since the Defence Ministry has indicated that the last test of the Indo-Russian BrahMos missile was not fully successful. Added to this, it has also been revealed that the indigenous Tejas LCA is facing more delays and will not get initial operational clearance (IOC) before 2013. Indian Defence Minister AK Antony has stated in the Parliament that one subsystem failed in the July 29 test of the Indo-Russian BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. India Spent Nearly $40 Billion on Defence Procurement in Last Three Years

With armed forces modernisation as its focus, India has spent nearly Rs.2 lakh crore (nearly $40 billion) in the last three financial years beginning 2009-10 on procuring defence equipment, the parliament was informed. "In the three years beginning 2009-10, the total expenditure on procurement of defence equipment for the armed forces was Rs.1,98,054.7 crore," Defence Minister AK Antony said in a written reply to questions. India is expected to spend about $100 billion over the next decade to modernise its armed forces, particularly on capital procurements of new weapons and other systems. Read More...

State-Run DRDO to Provide Host of Missiles to the Military in the Coming Decade

With the Defence Ministry restricting international procurement of missiles, the Indian Armed Forces will be provided homegrown tactical missiles with the help of state-run DRDO and its associate laboratories. As per recent reports and statements made by DRDO, the military is expected to buy Rs 1 lakh crore worth of DRDO-developed missiles in the next ten years. In a recent media report, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) has revealed that the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Army had already placed orders worth Rs 24,000 crore for Akash surface-to-air missiles.
