India China Army Exercise Next Year

After a lull of over three years in military ties, Defence ties between India and China are set to gain momentum with New Delhi mulling joint exercises with Beijing next year. India is planning to propose joint military exercises with China which will also include army-to-army exercises, sources said here. The armies of the two countries last held counter insurgency and counter terrorism wargames codenamed 'Hand-in-Hand' in 2009 in Belgaum in India and prior to that in China in 2007. Indian Firms Down Selected for Army's Communication System

India has down selected two domestic Defence firms, one of which will execute the Indian Army's Tactical Communication System project worth over $2 billion (Rs.10,000 crore). India Empowers Army to Buy Special Forces Equipment

A month after Indian Army chief General VK Singh flagged gaps in defence preparedness in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, India has empowered its army to buy specialist equipment for its special forces on its own, even as it agreed to consider the army request to have attack helicopters in its aviation fleet as has been demanded by it for several years now.
