India China Army Exercise Next Year
After a lull of over three years in military ties, Defence ties between India and China are set to gain momentum with New Delhi mulling joint exercises with Beijing next year. India is planning to propose joint military exercises with China which will also include army-to-army exercises, sources said here. The armies of the two countries last held counter insurgency and counter terrorism wargames codenamed 'Hand-in-Hand' in 2009 in Belgaum in India and prior to that in China in 2007. India and China had agreed to enhance Defence exchanges and communications for better understanding and mutual trust.

Indian Firms Down Selected for Army's Communication System
India has down selected two domestic Defence firms, one of which will execute the Indian Army's Tactical Communication System project worth over $2 billion (Rs.10,000 crore). This path-breaking move by the Indian Defence Ministry comes as a boost to the private sector Defence companies, as a special purpose company floated by Larsen & Tubro, Tata Power SED and HCL Infosys Limited, all private sector major that have entered into the Defence business, is one of the down-selected firm.

India Empowers Army to Buy Special Forces Equipment
A month after Indian Army chief General VK Singh flagged gaps in defence preparedness in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, India has empowered its army to buy specialist equipment for its special forces on its own, even as it agreed to consider the army request to have attack helicopters in its aviation fleet as has been demanded by it for several years now. These decisions were taken at a special review meeting - the third since February 28 - of army's acquisition process and the second since March 12.

Sino-Indian Military Ties Improve as a Crucial Pact on the Border Issue Gets Signed
With the objective of maintaining all-round cooperation and strategic trust, India and China seem to be heading for an amicable solution to the highly contentious border issue. Both nations have signed a pact to establish a “Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs” which aims to resolve border disputes and strengthen military cooperation. The agreement was finalized in New Delhi recently, signed by India’s ambassador to China Mr.S.Jaishankar and Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin.

Indian Army Chief Assures Superior Army Performance and Faster Response against Threats
The Indian Army Chief General V.K.Singh has indicated that the Indian Army has undergone major changes in the past few years in terms of acquisitions, deployments and troop mobilization. The recent modernization drives as well as the major army drills with various countries have solidified the Indian Army for more effective operations and combats, lending a more lethal edge and faster response time against potential homeland security threats.
