Indian Coast Guard Gets First 3-Star officer

Indian Coast Guard has got its first-ever three-star officer from within its own cadre since it was raised in 1977. The Indian government approved the elevation of the present second-in-command of the Indian Coast Guard, Inspector General Rajendra Singh, as Additional Director General, according to officers from the youngest of the four Indian armed forces. India Opens New Coast Guard Station In Andaman

India has opened a new Coast Guard station at Mayabunder in north Andaman in a bid to strengthen the coastal security of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. India's Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma commissioned the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) station. Andaman and Nicobar Command commander-in-chief Air Marshal PK Roy and Commander Coast Guard Region (Andaman and Nicobar) Inspector General VSR Murthy were present on the occasion. Indian Coast Guard Inducts New Interceptor Boat

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has inducted the first of 36 high speed interceptor boats to boost the coastal security force's capability to prevent terror attacks like the one on Mumbai in 2008 and illegal activities close to the 7,516-km coast. The $200-million order for the 36 interceptor boats had been placed by the Indian government post-26/11 terror strikes as part of the new coastal security measures. Designed and built in-house by Indian private sector Larsen and Toubro at its Surat unit, the interceptor boat was commissioned at Porbander in Gujarat by Gandhinagar-based South Western Air Command chief Air Marshal A K Gogoi. British-Built New Hovercraft Inducted By Indian Coast Guard

The Indian Coast Guard has till now inducted three of the 12 new Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs), designed and built by British firm Griffon Hoverworks Limited, with the successful induction of the second vehicle in the series, ICGS H-188, at Haldia in West Bengal. The first and the third vehicles in the series, H-187 and H-189, were inducted in June and November this year at Okha in Gujarat under the administrative and operational control of the Commander Coast Guard Region (North-West). Kolkata Gets Coast Guard Regional Headquarters

India has opened its fifth Coast Guard regional headquarters in Kolkata that will keep a watchful eyes on coastal security of the nation's northeastern region. West Bengal Governor and former Intelligence Bureau chief MK Narayanan formally declared the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East) and the co-located Coast Guard Station open and commissioned it. Indian Coast Guard Director General Vice Admiral MP Muralidharan and a large number of civilian and military dignitaries were present on the occasion.
