India and Sri Lanka Conduct Joint Naval Exercises after a Gap of Six Years

After a hiatus of six years, the Indian Navy and Sri Lankan Navy are participating in a joint exercise to develop greater interoperability and to augment joint naval operations. The joint exercise is called “Operation Slinex 11” and it aims to rekindle close cooperation between Indian and Sri Lankan Navy. Indian Navy to Induct New Stealth Frigates

The Indian Navy will witness a significant leap in its fleet of stealth frigates with the induction of two of the Project-17 stealth frigate this year besides the induction of a Russian-built frigate as well. INS Satpura, the 6,200 tonne stealth frigate is to be commissioned by mid-2011 while the Russian-built 4,900-tonne INS Teg will be ready for induction by October. CAG Report Exposes Pitfalls in Naval Warship Projects and State-Run Shipyards

India’s First Indigenous Warship Ins Shivalik Inducted by Navy

India’s first indigenous stealth frigate, INS Shivalik, has been inducted into the Indian Navy. INS Shivalik has arrived at Vishakapatnam and will now form part of the Eastern fleet under the Eastern Naval Command. The stealth frigate, INS Shivalik, was commissioned in April 2010 by the Indian Defence Minister A.K.Anthony at Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL) and has now been inducted in Vishakapatnam.
