Induction Tests of Akash Missiles Conducted

India has successfully carried out induction trials of its indigenously-built surface-to-air tactical Akash air Defence missile. The test was mandatory before this lot of Akash missiles are inducted into the Indian armed forces, officials closely associated with the trials said. The user conducted test was carried out from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur off Odisha coast using a mobile launcher from launch complex-III at 11 a.m. The tests and the induction of the Akash missiles will boost India's air Defence shield and re-validate its operational efficacy. Technical Snag Puts Off Prithvi-II Missile Tests

India's plan to carry out a twin test of its nuclear-capable Prithvi-2 missile today from its base on the Odisha coast on the eastern seaboard came to a naught due to a technical snag, officials said here. "The Prithvi tests scheduled for December 21 has been postponed due to a technical snag," Defence Research and Development Organisation's spokesperson Ravi Gupta said. India to Test Dhanush Ship-Launched Ballistic Missile in First Quarter Of 2012

India is preparing to carry out another test of its ship-launched Dhanush ballistic missile, as part of a user trial for its navy, in the first quarter of next year. The 350-km-range missile will be tested from on board an Indian warship, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sources told Defencenow.com. "Dhanush missile will be tested in the first few months of 2012," sources said. Dhanush, a nuclear-capable ballistic missile, is already inducted into the naval service. Read More...

Nag Missile Induction delayed as Indian Army Seeks Changes In Nag Carrier

The induction of the indigenous ‘Nag’ anti-tank missile has hit another stumbling block as the Indian Army has expressed its discontent over the the missile carrier NAMICA (Nag missile tracked carriers). The Indian Army has now sought re-designing of the NAMICA for optimum performance. It has been established that the NAMICA must have enhanced features that will ensure that the NAMICA complements the third generation Nag ATGM.

Bharat Dynamics Limited Signs Largest Ever Deal With Army for Akash Missiles

The largest ever contract with the Indian Army has been signed by the state-owned Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the ‘Akash’ Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs) which will be to the tune of $  3.1 billion.‘Akash’ SAM has been developed by Defence Research and Development Orgnization (DRDO) and the Indian Army is ordering two regiments of  ‘Akash’ SAM systems which include 2000 missiles, launchers, radars and ground systems.
