DRDO Scientists Named For India's Highest Civilian Awards

India has named its three key defence scientists for receiving their highest civilian awards this year. President Pranab Mukherjee approved their names to receive the Padma awards as part of the 108 persons chosen for the honour. Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Director General, was chosen for the Padma Bhushan award, which is the second highest civilian award of the country. BAE, Mahindra JV Under Joint Review

After three years of operations, Mahindra and Mahindra and its foreign partner BAE Systems have announced a review of their joint venture in India to see if it needs any change to address issues concerning an evolving market. "Since the establishment in 2009 of the Mahindra and Mahindra and BAE Systems Joint Venture, Defence Land Systems India (DLSI), both shareholders recognise that significant evolution has occurred in the Indian Land Systems market," their joint statement said. "Developments in both the industry environment and in customer procurement frameworks and acquisition strategies have led the shareholders to institute a strategic review of the business," they said. BEL, Thales to Form Joint Venture Firm for Developing Radars

India and France are all set to form a joint venture that will focus on designing, developing and manufacturing civilian and select military radars for both the Indian and global markets. The joint venture will be formed by Indian Defence public sector Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and French Defence firm Thales and the two companies announced their plans were approved by their respective boards in a statement here Wednesday. Brahmos to Launch Submarine Version of the Missile, Hike Up Speed to Mach 7 for Hypersonic Version

The Indo-Russian aerospace joint venture BrahMos Aerospace has announced that it has ventured into the project to develop a hypersonic BrahMos cruise missile. The CEO of BrahMos Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai, has indicated that the target is to reach a speed of Mach 7 with the hypersonic missile. Besides the hypersonic missile, the BrahMos family of missiles will soon launch a submarine version as well. Speaking during a lecture on Self-reliance in Aerospace Technologies, BrahMos CEO Sivathanu Pillai stated that aerospace is venturing into the hypersonic world where speed is power and the BrahMos hypersonic missile aims to reach a speed of Mach 7. Induct BrahMos in your Navy, India to Russia

India has asked Russia to start induct the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles in its naval fleet to further strengthen the joint venture between the two countries. The two sides had formed the joint venture to produce the supersonic cruise missiles in 1998 and since then, all three wings of the Indian armed forces have ordered BrahMos for their inventory but the Russian side is yet to do so. In India, the Navy and the Army have already inducted the BrahMos missiles and work is on to develop an air-launched version of the missile to be equipped on the SU-30MKI aircraft. Read More...
