DCNS France Opens New Facility for Scorpene Project, Seeks More JVS to Make Components Indigenously

The French shipbuilding major DCNS has opened a dedicated facility in Hyderabad in partnership with the local SEC Industries for making critical components for the Scorpene submarines. Besides, DCNS has also revealed that it is scouting for more Indian partners for joint ventures for manufacturing components for the roughly $ 4 billion Scorpene submarine project being developed with the DCNS technology. Brahmos Aerospace to Develop First Prototype of Brahmos 2 Hypersonic Missile By 2017

After the success of the BrahMos missile, India and Russia are gearing up to develop the advanced version called hypersonic BrahMos 2 cruise missile. According to the CEO of the Russian-Indian joint venture Brahmos Aerospace, Sivathanu Pillai, the prototype of the hypersonic BrahMos 2 missile will be ready for flight tests by 2017. BrahMos 2 cruise missile will be capable of flying at speeds of Mach 5-Mach 7. HAL Signs Pact with Russia to Make Multi-Role Transport Aircraft

The state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a contract with Russian firm United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to manufacture 205 multi-role transport aircraft (MTA) meant primarily for the Indian and Russian air forces. The MTA will be in the 15-20 tonne class and the project is estimated to cost $ 600 million. Besides HAL and UAC, another Russian firm - Multirole Transport Aircraft Ltd (MTAL) - has been involved as a third partner in the joint venture. Read More...

Indian DPSUs Increase Exports to the US, Europe and Asia

The Minister of State for Defence M.M.Pallam Raju has stated in the Parliament that since 2009-2010, the Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) have exported products worth nearly $ 4.03 billion (Rs 1,815 crore) to over 50 countries including the US, UK, China, and Israel amongst others. The Minister has stated that the state-run Defence units are continually progressing in terms of exports. Minister of State (Defence) M.M.Pallam Raju has tabled a report in the Parliament which describes the value of material exported by nine the DPSUs to a total of 53 countries. The total export value generated by the DPSUs stood at Rs 1,81,487 lakh. Read More...

BrahMos Expects New Army Order for Steep Dive BrahMos regiment

BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russia joint venture to produce supersonic cruise missiles of the same name, is expecting a new order from the Indian Army for its latest steep dive capable missiles regiment soon. BrahMos chief executive A Sivathanu Pillai said at DefExpo in Delhi that with the successful testing of the 290-km-range missile on March 28 this year, the Indian Army orders will soon be finalised. BrahMos had also carried out a test of the missile for its upgraded systems successfully on March 30, he added. Read More...
