Speed up SAM projects, India to Israel

After the failure of a critical trial of the Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MR-SAM) in Israel, India has asked Tel Aviv to speed up the development of two advanced surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems. During the 10th joint working group on defence cooperation, co-chaired by defence secretary Shashikant Sharma and Israeli defence ministry director-general Major-General Ehud Shani, the two sides also discussed the regional and global security situation, including the recent Israel-Hamas ceasefire. State-Run DRDO to Provide Host of Missiles to the Military in the Coming Decade

With the Defence Ministry restricting international procurement of missiles, the Indian Armed Forces will be provided homegrown tactical missiles with the help of state-run DRDO and its associate laboratories. As per recent reports and statements made by DRDO, the military is expected to buy Rs 1 lakh crore worth of DRDO-developed missiles in the next ten years. In a recent media report, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) has revealed that the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Army had already placed orders worth Rs 24,000 crore for Akash surface-to-air missiles. Indian Navy Suffers Setback as Bid to Acquire Barak Missile Put on Hold Due To CBI Probe

The Indian Navy is in for another setback as the Defence Ministry has decided to put on hold the additional acquisition of 262 missiles for Israeli Barak-I anti-missile Defence (AMD) systems deployed on 14 frontline warships. The bid to get the missiles at a cost of more than $ 140 million is stalled due to a CBI probe into the kickbacks involved in the earlier deal. The current decision to stall the acquisition of additional supplies of Barak–I missiles has majorly upset Indian Navy’s renewed bid to arm its Israeli Barak-I AMD on the Indian warships. India Floats out Its First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier 'INS Vikrant' From Cochin

India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC-1) for the Indian Navy has been floated out at state-owned Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) during a ceremony attended by high-ranking naval officials and ministers. The IAC-1 is a 40,000 tonne air defence platform and will be named INS Vikrant. Due to delays in the projects, the INS is likely to enter service only in 2015. India and Israel to Test the Jointly Produced Barak-8 Missiles in February 2012

The Barak-8 programme comprising of the Medium and Long Range Surface to Air Missile (MR-SAM/LR-SAM) missiles being developed by India and Israel will be ready for testing by early 2012. The state-run DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) are currently working together on the MR-SAM and LR-SAM missile project and its test with the entire supporting system will happen in Israel by February 2012.
